I am not sure if this is the way I am supposed to ask a question(s) of this fine group of people?

I am not sure if this is the way I am supposed to ask a question(s) of this fine group of people?

I have a few questions regarding Gmail or google calendar and contacts and how to effectively use them.

First question, I have set up a group within gmail but do not want the other recipients to see the email addresses or names of the others in my group. Is there a way to do this?

2. Is there a way I can have Gmail access the contacts I have on my iPhone 4S without me having to re enter each contact within gmail when I want to send an email using one of my gmail email addresses? In other words, can gmail easily access my existing iphone contacts?

I would like to use Google calendar on all of my i Devices (iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook Air) instead of the built in calendar used by all of these devices since I use ONLY G+ as my social platform.

This came up recently when Heather Kraafter sent me an event invite for a personal hangout we have scheduled. I had to manually take her invite and enter onto my iPhone since I don't regularly use the Google Calendar function. I would be open to it but don't understand how it all integrates and it is essential that any calendar items I enter onto one device automatically flow to the others. I assume Google can do this but don't know for sure.

  1. Keith Caldwell Wish I could help but I don't use mobile devices and have no idea how they interface with Google calendar.

As to the group thing... if sending to the group use you gmail address in teh TO field and the group name in the BCC Field and it should work ok (I think!).

  2. Keith Caldwell I can't speak for the iPhone but on my iPad I went to the apple Apps Store and inst5alled Google+, Hangouts, GMail and Chrome browser.  It's not as tidy as on an Android device (where you can get a single consolidated google collection button) but it will make it easier to get into a hangout on your iPhone.  My experience is that Apple mobile devices (iPad, iPhone) will not give you a lower third with your name, etc. nor will you be able to use any in-hangout tools, but you can participate.  Try the "Get live help button" on the right side of the community page.  These guys are great for sorting out issues.  Communication is always better face to face (less time consuming too!)

  3. Keith Caldwell there is no app for the Google calendar. I use the app CalenMob (free). It allows me to see my Google calendar with my phone. I also use the Gmail app on my phone to review mail.

The calendar will need you to add the information manually whether at your computer, iPad or iPhone. The calendar does not import information (not friendly that way I'm afraid).

  5. Keith Caldwell I'm not an expert at Gmail, but let me try address your questions.
    1. When you compose a new e-mail, enter the name of the group in the bcc field (to the right of the To: section). That will keep everyone from seeing the e-mail addresses.
    2. Gmail has an import function in their contacts section (under the "more" link) and will capture the addresses from your Apple Address book.  This may be what you need.
    3. Google Calendar is a standard feature on my Android. But, for your iPhone, it wouldn't surprise me if there's a Google Calendar app you can add.

Since having Google Calendar on my phone, I have come to rely on that one calendar 100%. Really makes my life easy!

I hope these ideas help, Keith.  I hope to be able to join U2U one night this week -- in case you have questions and want to talk some of this over. Just let me know!
