Hello everone,

I would like to thank Sheila Hensley for introducing me to the U2U community! I am new to communities in Google + and enjoy learning new things. I have already learned some cool stuff from Andrew Hatchett and Michael Daniels.

I am a Jersey girl, and I am a former CFO for a social service private nonprofit of 18 years but due to personal health reasons I had to retire.

I am an advocate for dementia support and awareness. My mother has this disease for the past 17 years and is now 74 years old.

Since I became aware of this possibility I always fill in the form whenever I create an event. It appears that the '*Places*' section on the old Google+ profile and the new About Me profile has been changed a bit. It used to be limited to the number of places that could be added but now seems open ended as well as the character limit for the field has been greatly increased - see attached image.

This could well serve as a substitute to the "Story" section on the G+ profile which was not included on the new AboutMe profile.

New Google+ Tip: Don't Share to Communities by Mistake

Always check who your post will be shared with before clicking the POST button. That is especially important with the new Google+ because of a change in how posts are pre-addressed. The audience for a post is at the top of the post as circled in the attached screenshot.

Google+ has always pre-addressed new posts to the same audience as the last post you shared, but the new Google+ changes added a new twist to that. The classic Google+ only kept track of who you shared your last non-community post with. The new Google+, however, remembers community posts and will pre-address your next post to a community if the last post you shared was with that community.

If your post is not addressed to the audience you want, click on the audience to select the audience you want.

Today we're rolling out several updates to our G+ preview on the Web including:

* Visible links to categories on Community pages
* Auto-play of animated GIFs (with a setting to turn on/off)
* Ability to pin posts within Collections
* Clearer indication of notifications on the home stream
* Warning to ensure you don't lose new posts when changing pages

Some of these changes were unanimously requested (people want community categories visible!). Others required us to strike an appropriate balance between opposing feedback (some people love animated GIFs, others don't!). In all cases, we really appreciate your thoughts so please keep them coming using the Send Feedback menu item.

I never liked Events in Google Plus because of all the Invites in my notifications and in my calendar.
So rather than complain or listen to folks complain I decided to create a fictitious video of a possible solution to having shows and engaging on G+

Google+ Tip: Hack to Search Communities in the New Google+

The new Google+ does not yet have all of the features of the classic Google+. One which has frustrated many people is the lack of the ability to perform searches within communities. The following is a quick-and-dirty way to perform community searches from the new Google+. It isn't pretty, but it works. 

While you are in the community you want to search, add "/s/" (without the quotation marks, of course) to the URL where is a single word or multiple words delimited by "%20", and then hit Enter. For example, adding "/s/apple%20orange" searches a community for all posts with "apple" and "orange" in them. The full URL if you wanted to perform that search in the Google+ Help community then would be https://plus.google.com/communities/115758385206378551362/s/apple%20orange.

Performing a search that way takes you into the classic Google+ Search page, but hitting the browser's back key returns you to the new Google+.
