I hope you do not mind me sharing a post here about the NEW User Interface for Google Plus

I hope you do not mind me sharing a post here about the NEW User Interface for Google Plus
This was just announced today, and I thought you may like to know more.

Google Plus

I refer to my website as My Home on the Internet and Google Plus is my Front Porch

Why is Google+  my front porch? I sit and chat with friends here.  I meet new people walking by and the front porch is so big and vast that there are spots for folks of many interests to congregate and connect day in and day out. They call those places communities and collections, I just see them as extensions of my front porch.

Today, a new look and feel is being brought to the front porch and I thought I would share with you some of the things I see are positive and a few things I do hope the team will consider bringing in the coming days.

Here is an excerpt from Luke Wroblewski 's post (find his full post here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+LukeWroblewski/posts/jJvNS3mwxyv)
We’ve worked hard to make our new web experience load fast and work beautifully on devices of all sizes.
You can preview the new Google+ on the web today by signing in and clicking “Let’s go” when you see the prompt. (And since not every feature of Google+ has made its way into this new design, for now, you can toggle back to the classic Google+ with one click in the bottom left-hand corner.) In the coming days, we’ll roll out updated apps for Android and iOS.
While this is an exciting new beginning for us, we’re definitely not done yet. We got here by listening and learning, and will continue doing so. Please visit our Help Center (https://goo.gl/gWsFeh) or drop us a line in our support community (https://goo.gl/eMFVj) to share your thoughts, questions, and more.

My Thoughts
I have had the pleasure of looking at this new design and moving around in it a while and I gotta say there are some things I like and a few I don't. As with any change, it is always tough to adjust, but I am trying to have an open mind and I suggest you try it too. Allow me to begin with what I am not pleased with…

Things I DON’T like
~Hangout Video Chats, messaging, etc are not a part of the new interface. They are not totally gone, just moved over to this link: https://hangouts.google.com/ We can no longer access it in the 9 box grid in the upper right corner either, and I really hope that changes in the coming weeks.
~The about profile tab is drastically different. I was a big fan of how different the about portion of G+ was and what it allowed us to include and share. That has changed, but I am really hoping they see this as a crucial error and bring it back.
~Posting can be a bit tricky as it will act as it does on the mobile app, it will always choose the last place you posted as the next place you want to post so be sure to pay attention when you hit post that you select where you want that post to go!!!
~Search is a bit off right now, I have confidence this will improve.

Things I like
~the look and feel is very similar to my phone, which means I don't have to think too much when I want to do something I am use to doing here or there.
~with the focus on Communities and Collections it means more activities and posts will go where they belong. I really like that! Big fan of Collections!
~streamlined design means quicker loading
~simpler view of stream and posts and comments

I do hope you will help us all gain a better experience by giving the new User Interface a try, play around with it a bit and send feedback when you see something you want them to know about. IT REALLY HELPS!

  1. I don't mind, personally I thank you for your insights Heather Kraafter they are appreciated. Personally I need a bit more time to vote yay or nay but as you suggest, I am approaching it with an open mind.

  2. Thanks Heather Kraafter!  Now I look forward to any changes I haven't seen yet.  Change is hard but it always seems to grow on us until we adjust.  However, I am not past sending feedback if I truly don't like something.  But you knew that, eh?  Thanks for your opinions as you go through your journey my friend.  Helps a bunch. :)

  3. I will also add here in this community that I am a little bummed about there being NO EVENTS however, it goes to prove that the CCHOA we created some time ago right here in THIS community still proves to be a valuable use of Hangouts On Air.
Thanks Bill Graham  and Sheila Hensley

  4. To paraphrase Ceasar....

    "I came, I saw, I threw up, I returned to Classic G+"

  6. We must just move on. We have known for some time that everything is moving toward mobile. Yes, some of us are still using desktop, but personally I'm spending more and more time on mobile practicing the voice activation etc. I am not moving back to G+ classic because it will disappear soon I'm sure. It would have been nice to keep Events in G+
