Happy 2017!

Happy 2017!

I have a lot of mobile users in my hangouts and we are always experiencing problems with the invite. Sometimes they get in after several attempts.

I tried sending the Permanent link via the Google Hangouts interface.
I tried sending the Permanent Link via the M link (Google Mail).
I tried posting the Permanent Link in a Facebook Post.
I tried sending the Permanent Link in Facebook Messenger.

All of the above have worked at one time or another, but not consistently.

Seems like things go more smoothly with iPhones as compared to Android.

Please advise. Thanks!

  1. Hi Prema.

I only use desktops/laptops so am unable to help with mobile issues. Perhaps Michael Daniels or one of of our other members who use mobile can help.

  2. I only have an Android phone and have had three over the last couple years of varying grades (old and low quality...mid range... high end) In all of my experiences I can tell you that there is no consistency with any of them (all Android, BTW) as there just isn't with mobile devices.
Sometimes it is the device, sometimes the signal strength, sometimes the weather.
Recently, with improved device, with improved services and with HIGH signal strength, it was still very difficult to participate in a session without failures.

Unfortunately, there is no real good answer to your specific questions because so much is varied each time with each device.

What I always recommend to anyone who wants to hold meetings, ALWAYS use the strongest device connected with a hard line. For those wishing to participate with as little issue as possible, the same.

If wireless and mobile are unavoidable, do not move around, turn off camera to lower bandwidth issues and mute whenever not speaking.

These steps usually assure the best connection you can get.

For invites - the best thing is always to use the link sent in email.
If not using registration emails, then you should email them the link yourself.

Specific to permalinks - Michael Daniels knows those better than I do. I hope he can help with that.

I hope some of this helps Prema Q

  3. I just want to clarify Permalinks are we talking in a regular hangout or are you talking business-hangouts?

Business-Hangouts the is only one link!

On mobile for a regular hangout (on your computer) go to options, the 3rd choice you can check box "joining by link" this should allow that link to be accessible and work every time. Once you have the link you can share that link by text, hangout message, email, verbally etc.
