Are Your Replies To WordPress Comments Even Being Seen?
You have a WordPress Website and you reply to everyone’s comments. Right? It’s important to you. Right? Did you know that the person who left the comment may never see your reply? Especially if you have been making the same mistake that I have. You can easily be fooled, I know I was.
In the article below I will share the false assumption that I was making and apparently many others are as well. Also, I will walk you through how to set your comment preferences, as well as provide some suggestions you might consider for managing your replies to comments on your WordPress Website.

h/t MaAnna Stephenson and a huge Thank you for alerting me to the fact that my replies are probably often not even being seen. I am also excited to be included in MaAnna’s October test of several comment management options for WordPress Websites. For a great site to keep up to date on WordPress updates and other cool stuff, please subscribe to MaAnna’s BlogAid Website. She has a knack for explaining some very technical things in a way that even us non-tech people can understand. Follow her at the links below to stay on top of all things WordPress and be able to ask some important questions maybe you didn’t even know needed to be asked.

ReplyDeleteGreat article and Google Site. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure Andrew Hatchett. Most of the people that I have talked to since being made aware of this, were making the same false assumption that I was. So I hope it helps to make others aware and give them some options for their comment replies going forward.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Bill Graham. Great information, well-expressed. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBill Graham you make some very good points here and I am going to my site now to double check those settings, However I think the majority of bloggers dont get as many comments and/or interaction as we would like to have This is one of the reasons I have added "Forums" to my site. Now the question is how do you get people to join a membership site?
ReplyDeleteThank you Roland Takaoka, Glad it was of value.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Arthur Morehead I am glad you found this information useful.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree many would like to see more comments on their sites, IMHO engagement is probably the most important analytic. That is why it is good to know that even when you do reply from WordPress, because the comment author does not receive a notification, they may never know that you replied. They are the people that have initiated a conversation and may be lead to believe that our non-reply (even though we did reply) is an indicator of our interest non-iterest in them. Double checking settings will only insure that you are notified when someone leaves a comment on your site. They will still not receive a notification of your reply. Knowing this though allows us to take an extra step to ensure that they see our reply and that we are happy to engage and willing to hopefully build a relationship.
Paid membership Sites are a whole other topic. Most information is available on the internet for free these days, so IMHO they are not like The Field of Dreams" , just because we build it does not mean they will come. I think we must start from a place of giving of ourself, with a focus on being helpful first rather than from a place of making a paycheck. Once we have built relationships based on that reputation, at that point we may find that we have something worth monetizing. Just my view from the cheap seats.
Yes it did get my attention as I do have my settings set right. However I do all the things that you mentioned but rarely get a response like many others.....sad.......
ReplyDeleteGreat points being made here. Thanks for the conversation Bill Graham
