YouTube rolling out Live Chat Replay (and more)

YouTube rolling out Live Chat Replay (and more)

I know there has been a lot of interest here in trying to find ways to preserve live chat conversation. It sounds like this update may fit the bill.

Today we are starting to roll out chat replay to YouTube, so you can follow the conversation even after a live stream is over. Live chat replays will show up alongside the video, exactly as it appeared live.

I haven't seen in in action and the help center isn't updated yet with details, but it sounds promising.

Today's updates make like streams more accessible and more fun:

* Live chat replay lets people follow the chat after the live stream is over.

* English automatic captions are coming to live streams " with error rates and latency approaching industry standards"

* You can now add a location tag to mobile live streams and video uploads. People can find uploads by location filtering in search or by clicking a location tag.

  1. You mean I will no longer have to copy and paste my Live Chat window into a document after each webcast then link to this from my website so folks can then view a copy of the chat that is not connected in any way to a replay of the video?!?! Whoa!! Thanks so much Peggy K for this and for always bringing us the latest useful information from Google:^)

  2. I probably will chat less or maybe not at all in most cases. Unless I have control over my commenting I will have to be more cautious. I'll just tell people I will comment after the live event.
What about editing and deleting comments? Peggy K

  3. Craig Long I'm not sure you can edit or delete your live chat comments.

  4. Peggy K Is this only for partners? I can't find any examples yet.

  5. Oh no... trimming removes the live chat!?!??

  6. Heather Kraafter I guess they haven't figured out how to trim the chat also.

  7. Heather Kraafter I suspect Craig Long has the reason - the live chat replay is synced to the video, so trimming the video messes that up.
