Removing the last Google+ features from YouTube

While YouTube and Google+ have been largely separated since 2016, there were a few remaining Google+ linked features that will stop working this month.

* If you shared a private video with a Google+ Circle, people in that Circle will no longer be able to view the video

* You will no longer be able to add a channel icon or cover art in the YouTube mobile app

* Google+ profile and page links will be removed from YouTube channel About tab and channel header

* If you are using a pre-September 2016 version of the YouTube mobile app, you will no longer be able to read or post comments

I know a bunch of you have been playing with Blogger, so this may be of interest.

If you aren't using Google+ Comments or a Google+ Profile for your Blogger account, these changes shouldn't affect your blog.

If you are using Google+ Comments, they are going to disappear on Monday :(

Blogger will start removing Google+ features beginning February 4th, including Google+ comments, widgets and profiles

Today Blogger announced they would begin removing Google+ integrations Monday, February 4th. Note that if you do not use Google+ Comments or a Google+ Profile for your Blogger blog, you won't see much difference. Your blog posts and Blogger Comments won't be affected.

* Blogs will be switched from Google+ Comments to Blogger Comments on February 4th .

Google+ Comments cannot be migrated to Blogger Comments and they are not included in the Google Takeout archive or backup files for your Blogger account. Enjoy them now while you can.

* Google+ widgets will be removed from Blogger blog Layouts on February 4th

This includes Google+ Followers, Google+ +1 and G+ buttons, and the Google+ Badge.

If you manually added Google+ buttons or badges, or you are using a 3rd party template, you may need to remove those manually. They will stop displaying on March 7th when the Google+ API shuts down.

* Blogger will no longer support Google+ Profiles starting in March

If you use a Google+ Profile for Blogger, you will be prompted to create your Blogger profile the first time you sign in after the change.

YouTube rolling out Live Chat Replay (and more)

I know there has been a lot of interest here in trying to find ways to preserve live chat conversation. It sounds like this update may fit the bill.

Today we are starting to roll out chat replay to YouTube, so you can follow the conversation even after a live stream is over. Live chat replays will show up alongside the video, exactly as it appeared live.

I haven't seen in in action and the help center isn't updated yet with details, but it sounds promising.

Today's updates make like streams more accessible and more fun:

* Live chat replay lets people follow the chat after the live stream is over.

* English automatic captions are coming to live streams " with error rates and latency approaching industry standards"

* You can now add a location tag to mobile live streams and video uploads. People can find uploads by location filtering in search or by clicking a location tag.

YouTube Partner Program eligibility requirement update

Previously, for your channel to be in the YouTube Partner Program, it had to have 10,000 lifetime views.

Today that was changed so that you have to have:
* 1000 subscribers
* 4000 hours watchtime (240,000 minutes watchtime) in the past 12 months

If your YouTube channel is already in the YouTube Partner Program, but doesn't meet the new requirements:

* you should have received an email telling you about the change a few hours ago
* ads will stop displaying February 20th
* your channel should not lose currently Partner-only features like linking to external websites or live stream embedding

If you are a live streamer with a YouTube Gaming channel, you can now enable Sponsorships to earn money and connect with your fans. Sponsorships are currently in a closed beta for non-Gaming channels.

With sponsorships, fans can purchase digital goods directly from your channel and support you via monthly recurring payments of $4.99 USD (local pricing applies). Sponsors get cool insider perks, such as a custom badge for live chat that will help them stand out from the crowd and custom emoji. These badges and emoji are designed by you for your fans. As you gain more sponsors, you will unlock more emoji to be used on your channel. You can upload and use these in real-time as you pass sponsorship milestones.

Sponsors also get access to sponsors-only live chat and immunity from slow mode. You’ll also be able to set up additional perks through 3rd-party services, such as on-stream alerts that you’ve received a new subscriber via Streamlabs or an exclusive Discord sponsors-only server where fans can connect and chat together.
