So... I have a question that I can't figure out.
- HOA scheduled for tomorrow
- By invitation only
- External Sharing allowed
Most people can click "Yes" to "Are you going to watch?" in the email invitation, they are directed to the event page and they are good to go.
HOWEVER, some people click "Yes", are directed to the event page and are asked to submit their name. When they submit their name and Save, they are told that they do not access to the event.
I can't figure out why some people are being denied.
Can someone explain what's going on here? I assume that this is a beginner issue.
Thanks in advance!
+Fred Lee Was the event set up by a page or by a profile? If you can send an invite or provide a link to the event pages I can try and see what is going on.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what you mean by a page or by a profile. It's a closed event but I'm happy to send you an invitation to help me solve this. Please be on the lookout for an invitation from Royal LePage Hangouts. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFred Lee I think I may have found part of the problem...
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the event page there is a comment from Leila Mae De Castro saying she doesn't have access. Under the Viewers there is a Leila De Castro showing as not responding. It appears that Leila has more that one account (Different names and pictures) and is trying to access the event from her account that was NOT invited to the event.
People with multiple accounts must make sure they sign out of all accounts and only sign in to the event withe the same account that was invited.
I tried that with another person (was signed into multiple Google accounts - had him sign out of all of them and then sign in only to the account that was invited) and he was denied. However he said that he was able to join once he set up his G+ profile. Do users need to have an active G+ profile to access an HOA?
ReplyDeleteFred Lee They need an activated G+ account. Just having a GMail account won't do anymore- at least that is my understanding.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew. I was thinking the same.
ReplyDeleteSo my instructions to the invitees will be: (1) Please sign out of all Google accounts and sign into the account that was invited (2) Please activate your Google+ account for access to the HOA.
I appreciate you looking into this. Please let me know if you think there might be another cause/fix and I'll add it to the instructions.
Fred Lee Will do. I'll guess we'll know if that solved most of the problems by seeing how many that couldn't join will be able to after they follow the instructions.
ReplyDeleteHey Andrew Hatchett thanks for the continuing thread. Didn't know about the need for a G+ account INCLUDING a Gmail account. Good info! As always. And thank you Fred Lee for asking!
ReplyDeleteJim Burwell Actually all you need is an active G+ account but any email address can be used with that G+ account.
ReplyDeleteI checked in with a couple of the users having issues, followed the instructions and was still denied. I'm still digging away at this and report back if I figure out what's going on. The wonky part is that if you click "Yes" in the invitation, you end up on the event page but the "Yes No Maybe" buttons are still active (expected to see that you selected "Yes") and when you click "Yes" again, it says that you do not have access to the event. Head scratcher.
ReplyDeleteFred Lee Maybe Ronnie Bincer or some of his members in his Hangout Mastery or Hangout Helpers communities can make some suggestions about this - I'm kinda stumped at this point.
ReplyDeleteNo worries. I sincerely appreciate the effort you've already put into this to help me out. I'm still digging.
ReplyDeleteJust following up. The HOA went well. The issue seems to be isolated to the Yes/Maybe/No attendance-taking and had no effect on the access the HOA itself. Even though the system indicated that access was denied to some people, the same people were able to view the HOA and ask questions in the Q&A app. It just made the experience unnecessarily awkward for some people and put a burden on us to explain that they could ignore the warning.
ReplyDeleteFred Lee Glad all went well for you and your guests.
