Finished our first scheduled HOA event last night. Went well but we were told to expect about a 7 second delay from hitting the broadcast button to the show actually starting. On the replay of the Google Hangout I noticed that there is now an "uncomfortable" time with us doing nothing but whispering back and forth to each other until we thought we were live.
Since YouTube won't let me edit an HOA on YouTube, I downloaded the video and trimmed the first few seconds and the replay looks good now.
QUESTIONS: Will the edited version be assigned a new URL and will that new URL be just as valid once we swap out the videos? And, do we just delete the original video?
P.S. Rayne Dowell gave us excellent advice today on this but Leila is scared to death to change anything for fear of screwing up our first HOA. I've done everything Rayne said and am ready to upload the edited version, finish this and get it off my plate! :-)

ReplyDeleteWe always watch the Yellow LIVE Icon, upper right, to change from Gray to Yellow. It's a great visual for the Host, Producer AND Panel to know we are live.
We, just so you know, actually tell the Panel, "hitting the green broadcast button, Blue OK, cause we really want to do this" then the Host starts to talk.
We to it for two reasons: 1) we hope that member of the Panel do their OWN HOAs at some point in time, and 2) everyone knows where we are.
In the green room, we always ask the members of the Panel to MUTE their Mike, from the top of the HOA, so we can see that they are muted and tell them to do the same thing at the close of the HOA.
Just a thought.

Hey Russ Worthington thanks for the return comment/thought. We know the process:
ReplyDelete1. Green broadcast button
2. Blue "ok" button
3. Wait for the LIVE yellow button
And, like you just said, "I've always started talking when the lIVE yellow button comes on; however, we heard that once the yellow LIVE button comes on there is then a 7 second delay after that. Not true? If so, that explains our befuddled looks at each other! :-)
So, I'll do business as usual and start talking when I see the yellow LIVE button. We will look a lot more professional next time!
Like Rayne Dowell told me earlier today (to which I agree), I don't think there's a problem at all replacing the original HOA with the edited version. She knows a heck of a lot more than I do!
Hats off to Rayne Dowell and Russ Worthington for your great assistance!

ReplyDeleteAll of our HOAs and a normal, routine, opening by the Host. "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Welcome everyone..".
I review, for time stamping purposes, at least one a week, so I get to hear the recording. The Recording sounds the same, as the Live HOA, within the HOA.
The only delay would be, probably, the VIEWer, watching the Live HOA in our community.
I can't remember any recordings where I didn't hear our opening. The only delay, and we are talking a second or less, is for the Host to start speaking. As you know, lots of stuff to do from the Start Broadcast button to the start of the show. But not the 7 seconds that you are referring to. Or, at least I haven't seen it.

ReplyDeleteOh, and did YOU have fun ???
Russ
Thanks again folks. It's now lights out for me.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is another day!
Jim Burwell The only lag I'm aware of is from the time you hit the BLue OK button until the Yellow "On Air" button lights up. I know there is a slight lag but have never really timed it.
ReplyDeleteJim Burwell I just watched several "How to Set Up' videos and there is indeed a 5-7 second delay between hitting the blue button and the Yellow "On Air" button lighting up.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good Hangout Jim Burwell. I enjoyed it and was full of actionable information.
ReplyDeleteHi, You have had some very good replies in here Jim Burwell .
ReplyDeleteAll I will add is the only button you need to worry about is the "live broadcast" button going "live" as you will know that it is recording from then on.
Your viewers will however have an average wait of about 30 seconds before they hear you speak.
