I have a question about setting up hangouts. I was setting up a private hangout for a client of mine. When I got there, I got a message asking if I was going to watch it? I couldn't get into the control room. What advice do you have for me?
Andrea Amador When you say "when I got there" can you describe exactly how you got 'there' and can you give us exactly what the error message said - also, which method did you use to set up the private hangout? Can you repeat it and give us a screenshot?
Briefly (since this happened to me a few ties before I figured it out), Andrea Amador : If you are the host, you can't go "in" through the HOA URL (putting the URL in an address bar), whether the HOA is private or public.
You have to go "in" through the "Start" button on an Event page on Google+ (if that's how you set it up), or through your Calendar, where it says "Join this call" (if you set it up through your Google Calendar).
Otherwise, it treats you as a guest, which means: 1) you won't be able to use the host apps or icons, 2) you won't be able to go "live," if it's not private, and, 3) generally, you are screwed.
HOWEVER, the HOA is not ruined.
Don't "hang up" (click on) the red phone.
Go "out" of the HOA through the "X" in the close box on the upper right corner of your Browser window, which closes the window but doesn't end the HOA. (This is the way you should always exit a HOA until you're completely finished and want to terminate the HOA. At that point, you DO hang up the red phone, but not before that.)
Come "in" the HOA again as I described, above (not via the URL).
Your guest can stay "in" through all this coming and going just fine.
Should work.
If not, do as Andrew Hatchett requests and let the experts take over. This amateur has no more ideas!
Sally Sue Ember Thank you so much for your help. I'm going to see if I can recreate it so that I can understand what I need to do differently next time.
Andrew Hatchett Thank you, I really appreciate your help. I'm going to take your suggestions under advisement and I'll do my best to retrace my steps and see if I can get a screen shot too. If I can, I'll send it along.
