Please could someone explain to me why, when I try a screenshare in an HVC or an HOA, I get that kaleidoscope thinggie going off into the distance?

  2. Sheila Strover You get that because you are sharing your fullscreen which is showing a live event.

  3. Sorry Heather Kraafter I did not pick up that link in time to jump in to the Hangout. Andrew Hatchett please rephrase, because I am not quite sure what you mean. :(

  4. Sheila Strover try opening a seperate "window" on your computer (are you in windows? or on a Mac?).  Say you want to "show" a slide presentation.  Open your slide software (powerpoint.)  Don't maximize it, (full screen) but leave it in a box on the screen.  When you inititate a "share my screen" within the HOA, you'll be given the option to share your whole screen (which will look like a barbershop mirror) or select one of the open "windows."  You want to select the windows in which the presentation is being displayed."
    I hope this help.

  5. John Brown - I will have to play and see if I can get it right. I am not on Windows or a Mac, but on a Chromebook, which handles 'windows' a bit differently. I will get back to you all on this because it is important to me to be able to screenshare without messing up.

  6. I just wanted to make a note here, in case other Chromebook beginners are struggling with the same thing.

I learned that to screenshare, one needs to have the Hangout in one window and the content to be shared in another. However, it was not clear to me how to make a new window on the Chromebook, which does not do things quite like Windows.

In the end, I found that dragging the tab into the middle of the monitor put that tab into a new window.

Then I found a key on the top row, of my keyboard which looks like a box with two lines to its right side, and when you press that key then ALL your windows become small and float into the middle of the monitor, allowing you to toggle between them.

So I could be in the Hangout, click the Screenshare Button in the left Hangout menu bar, and then this key on the top row of my keyboard, pick the window that I wanted to share, and voila it worked. To get back to the Hangout one needs to press the keyboard key again and choose the other window.
