Beam | Interactive Livestreaming
Live streaming is now built-in to Windows 10
I just installed the latest updates for Windows 10 called the Windows 10 Creators Update. You can download it from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/features?ocid=engagement_ema_omc_win_aprnews_mod2
It adds a new built-in live streaming feature as part of the X-Box app. But unfortunately you can only stream to one destination at least for now: https://beam.pro/browse/all
I could stream my desktop very easily by holding down the Win + G keys and by clicking the broadcast button. And it was even easier to start a broadcast by pressing Win + Alt + B. I selected the option to have my broadcast recorded. I was able to download my video quite easily in high quality.
The Beam website is used mostly by gamers but I had no problems broadcasting anything from my desktop along with my webcam.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this.
Just another way to live stream.
ReplyDeleteCraig Long I will take a look at this too Have you look at Restream? you can stream to several formats and streaming sites at once including YouTube and Facebook at the same time for free. Using the OBS open source Codec is awesome. It works great
ReplyDeleteI watched a couple of the games and thought it was pretty cool. Didnt see where you can do your own streaming yet. Seems to be all about gaming
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead Restream sounds great!
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead You have a Beam channel. Press Win + G and click Broadacast or Win + Alt + B and you are broadcasting. But you have to download the Windows 10 updates which may take some time.
ReplyDeleteCraig Long Ahh ok Gotcha, I will wait to download the updates until I have everything else done that I need to do. Seems nowdays when windows thinks I need an update they throw everything thing in a box and shake it really hard and then I have to re locate everything again. Sometimes I think this is the way they have fun with us old guys lmao
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead Yeah they like to spring these major updates on us.
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead I'm finding more things about it so just ask.
ReplyDeleteChad LaFarge I just started testing this out. Not sure if live streaming to Beam is worth it?
ReplyDeleteCraig Long It Is an interesting site if you get deeper into it. If anything I think it could be another source of traffic. I was surprised of how many 30 to 40 year old gamers there are out there that take this stuff pretty serious. Could be another art and creatives market i never thought about. I was watching a chef build and paint a plant shelf last night. He just started streaming there and made a couple of hundred bucks from donations. Kind a like Super Chat
ReplyDeleteSuper Chat on YouTube you cant start until you get 1000 subscribers, a good way to make some money if you can get the subscribers
Arthur Morehead That's interesting. Go for it. You have to check a box that you are streaming a game but it may just be Microsoft's way of protecting itself against copyright issues. Technically you can stream anything on a desktop screen with no live streaming skills.
ReplyDeleteCraig Long it's ALWAYS good to know about the new tools as they come online... thanks for pointing it out. I'm not able to look at it at the moment, but will likely have a chance over the weekend. Thank you for alerting me to it.

ReplyDeleteI'm with Chad LaFarge. Due to primarily using Chromebooks/boxes and ChromeOS, I can't always play with the tools I'm still interested in learning there are new ones out there.
Chad LaFarge Andrew Hatchett That's OK guys. No hurry with this. G+ and the communities are a bit slow nowadays. I haven't heard from Bern Rexer for quite a while. I'm sure glad for your help.
ReplyDeleteVery clear! Is audio tricky, or jsut keeping silent for demo of screen only?
ReplyDeleteChad LaFarge I didn't enable the audio.
