Hi Andrew Hatchett

Hi Andrew Hatchett,
I am wondering if you have run into this, too: My guests cannot pull up the Hangout Toolbox becuase they cannot find it. The do NOT have the 3 little dots under the icons of the left-side icons of the Hangout window and when I have it already activated and re-activate it, they don't get the message to click quickly.
Is there an easy way to have them get the toolbox?
Thanks
Heidi

  1. I thought the Toolbox was for Hangouts on Air or the old Hangouts Video Calls. Andrew uses Hangouts more than I do so he will know.

  2. Heidi -

What Browser were your guests using ?

Did you have the new Hangout Tool Box on your screen ?

  3. Hello Adelheid Hörnlein :)

The new Hangout Toolbox is only available within a Hangout On Air. With the 3 dots missing AND the lack of the blue box for them to click quickly and get it, it almost sounds like things aren't fully loading. Have you tried having them do a browser refresh (F5). That is the only thing I can think of that might cure things.

  4. Craig Long Russ Worthingtonand Andrew Hatchett, thanks for the answers. In the first case when it happened the guest was on Chrome, had downloaded it especially for the show - the classical fear of the giant Google -. I didn't ask in the second case.

This Friday we will have Barbara Quick in the show who has experience with Hangouts and we will see how it works for her.

Browsdr refresh: do you mean to shut down the browser all together and reload it or only the tab with the hangout? We will try it!
    Thanks again!

While in the HOA just hit Function Key 5 - that will do the refresh you need. I think it only affects the tab you are on.

  7. I know why that might be happening.
Adelheid Hörnlein Do they have a G+ profile?

  8. Just dittoing what Craig Long asked - the Hangouts apps like Hangout Toolbox are only available if the person is signed into a Google Account with a Google+ Profile.

Can you get screen shots or join us in a HOA to investigate this?

  11. Andrew Hatchett. I don't think it helps as I have no problem with the toolbox. Not sure if the guests are inclined to join a trial, but I can suggest it to Barbara Quick - i9n case she doesn't find the toolbox either.

I'll try and make it to the event with Barbara Quick so see what, if anything, I might be able to help with.
