Well. How interesting is that? Good research and find Andrew Hatchett Looks to be a good alternative for us. Need help playing, let me know. Would love to help so I can learn more. First question: Are Google Groups safe from sunsetting or major changes in future? I'm sure this is part of your research as you dive deeper. :)

ReplyDeleteLet's not kid ourselves about sunsetting - The only two things I consider totally safe are Google Search and YouTube. Anything else (particularly free consumer products) depends on too many variables to even make a calculated guess at.
At Google, like life, the only constant is change.
;)
Yep, agree Andrew Hatchett Just a bit snake bit I guess after such a disappointment. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it makes a difference in your expectations, but one of the more recent Google+ updates was the ability to manage membership in private G Suite organization-limited Communities through Google Group membership.
ReplyDeleteYou can create a Google Group with email addresses of people in your domain, and they will also be members of the G+ Community. Remove an email from the Group and they are removed from the Community.
And you can use Groups to manage access to Docs and Drive files, and Google Sites sites.
So I think Groups is expected to be around for a while, at least as a way of managing access and running mailing lists.
As an actual community platform, who knows though.

ReplyDeleteThanks - my problem is there is no organizational domain for me to have members of. :)
I am glad to hear about using Groups to manage things.
Andrew Hatchett it would be nice if Google had another option for us consumer users.

ReplyDeleteIt certainly would! ;)
