BHOA YouTube screen is black, audio is fine

BHOA YouTube screen is black, audio is fine
Just had a webinar, and afterward got this feedback from someone who tried to participate. Has anyone else experienced this, if so, what do you tell them?

The speaker was good, the technical issues were too many.

First, from my macbook, I couldn't see anything. My screen was totally black. I could not see chat buttons or anything. However, the audio was great - loud and clear.  I logged off and used my iPad mini instead, where I got on, but the screen was very, very, tiny. I tried full screen and non-full screen, both were tiny. Also, I tried to use the chat to ask a question, it brought me to the box, but I was unable to type into it. Furthermore, at one point I got kicked off and then had to rejoin. Constant interruptions didn't help me learn as much as I wanted from this webinar.

I do a lot of webinars with Yelp! and for my work (acupuncture and health related companies) and rarely have issues like these. I've used a bunch of webinar platforms like GoToMeeting, GotoWebinar, Teamviewer, Glance, etc... but never used Business Hangouts before.  Perhaps the problem is with Business Hangouts or with my Comcast connection today. Also, my iPad mini is totally up-to-date with the latest IOS8 software, so don't think that was the problem. My $$ is on Business Hangouts or Comcast.

  1. oh and she's using Chrome on the macbook, that was sent in a different email. My first hunch is that the computer was overloaded with too many open applications, which is usually why people have video player problems.

  2. First let's check  a few things:
Were they a viewer or a participant?  You start  by saying "participant".
If she indeed was a participant she would not be able to join a BHOA.  SInce it takes the hangout App to join and the BHOA app to join, you can't have an App on an App.

If she was a viewer there could be many things that come into play.
She mentions black screen, this is totally a YouTube thing. BHOA is just a holding place so it doesn't change anything there.  As far as the chat is concerned she mentioned "chat buttons"  Not sure what chat buttons she is refering?  If chat is not working sometimes it is a matter of just click the Ctrl-F5 (on PC) and CMD F5 (on Mac) OR sign in again using the registration.

    Hope this helps

  4. On occasion when I enter a BHOA (as both host & viewer) it's totally black. What has worked for me is to refresh my browser and then everything shows up fine. Good luck!

  5. I had the same issue today with 3 of my viewers. I had them log off and use Firefox as their browser to join.  One was able to  join two were not.  All three have been in a BHOA before. Wondering how often this happens and what the cause is? Stephan Hovnanian  Andrew Hatchett  Michael Daniels

  6. I had reports of some people not getting in when using the link for the 2PM Hoa in U2U and others got in fine.
I've no idea of the cause, the cure, or the randomness There are so many variables... mobile or laptop, Chrome, Androis, iOS, Firefox, etc...

  7. I am not sure we know what the culprit may be.  Usually a refresh fixes things.  Sometimes it is a bandwidth issue.  Since BHOA is an app that holds the HOA, I don't think it is BHOA.  I could be wrong?

I heard yesterday in another community that 3 people had issues in regular hangouts : Could not use comment tracker, Some they could use it and then the rest of comments came up with no white background.  Lower 3rds not working, lip sync was off from the video/sound.  So I think there is a major issue with HOA's and the pluginless chrome (my opinion).
One thing you can do is give them the URL for the hangout.  This brings them into the HOA without BHOA.  If they get the black screen you know it is a Google Hangout issue.
If they get in fine and then add the BHOA app, that may be a work around.

  8. Michael Daniels I was wondering if it had to do with the pluginless myself.  One person said that her computer was new.
I will try giving them the url if it happens again.  Thank you!
