Asus Chromebox now only $127.99!
$52 off! The Asus Chromebox is powered by an Intel Haswell processor and comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB SSD storage. Both RAM and SSD are user upgradeable. This unit normally retails for $180. I am not sure how many they have at this price, so the price could change at any time.
You can see more details and specs here:

Brent Sullivan and Andrew Hatchett Tell me, again, how and why I should use it? Don't I also hafta buy a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse? What else for Hangouts On Air?
ReplyDeleteIs this a superior way to do mobile Hangouts on air or is it meant for home use?
Prema Qadir , You only have to buy those if you don't already have them. I believe most people buying chromeboxes are doing so as replacements for older XP machines, etc. and thus already have those (I'll admit I went whole hog with new monitor, wireless chrome keyboard and wireless mouse- but that we my choice as I had older accessories and monitir available).
ReplyDeleteThey are mostly meant for home use but could, I suppose, be used to do a HOA from a remote location.
As to why... many reasons:
1). It doesn't use windows!
2). Automatic updates
3). No fear of viruses
4).Very smail footprint (can be attached to back of monitor)
Andrew Hatchett Thank you, very much! And what the hell are we doing UP at this time of the morning?!?#?$?@?Z%?$$$
ReplyDeleteLOL! Prema Qadir I'm up catching up on stuff I didn't get done earlier yesterday (today?).
ReplyDelete;)
This is the model that I have connected to my large flat-screen in the living room. I have it paired with Logitech unified wireless keyboard and trackball and Logitech Business Class camera. Works great!
ReplyDeleteAndrew Hatchett & Lon McClure & Brent Sullivan Please forgive me for being lazy and not doing the specs research, I still have not [YAWN] slept .... SOON come.
ReplyDeleteI only have a 2011 MacBook Pro with Ethernet, Thunderbolt and Firewire 800. That is what I had intended to use for HOAs local/remote, unless I could find enough money to buy an inexpensive PC (as per the suggestion of a friend).
1) Windows and viruses set aside, Is a Chromebox better than an inexpensive PC?
2) Does the Chromebox have an Ethernet port?
3) How much did you guys spend on monitor, keyboard, mouse, cable, etc?
4) Can I load Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X and Screenflow on a Chromebox and edit video like on a PC or a Mac?
5) Lon, does the Chromebox make your flat-screen act like a Smart TV?
THANKS!
Prema Qadir, I can't speak to the Remote HOAs as I don't do them, but to answer your questions...
ReplyDelete1). One isn't intrinsically 'better' than the other. It all depends on what you intend to do with it. For example...you can't download/install ANY .exe.programs to a Chromebook/box. You are limited to apps and extensions found in the Chrome store.
2). I think it depends on the model. If one doesn't you can always use a USB/Ethernet converter.
3). Mine ran a bit under $1200 when all was said and done (all equipment, taxes, shipping, etc.). You have to remember that I bought the top of the HP line at that time (i7 and 8GB RAM - $710).
4). In a word-no. See #1
Andrew Hatchett You've told me exactly what I needed to know!
ReplyDeleteThank you, sooooooo much!
