What's the best way to begin screen sharing pics, word docs on an HOA?
What's the best way to begin screen sharing pics, word docs on an HOA? From Google Drive? Should I have them as separate docs in "My Drive?" or can I pull them from a Folder in "My Drive?"
Jim Burwell I don't do that much screen sharing (usually only 1-2 per event), but when I do I usually open what I want to share in a different window before I start the HOA so I can just switch to it rather than having to go to drive or a folder in drive to pull it up during the presentation.
A word doc can't appear in a different window/tab unless it's on google drive. If I open a word doc or a picture, they appear in the lower bar making them unable to be screen shared, right?
Jim Burwell I have only had to do this once before, what worked great for me was to create a slideshow of your pictures in Google docs and as Andrew Hatchett mentioned open the doc. In a separate window and then you can switch between screenshare and the HOA seamlessly using only one document with multiple pictures on it. Hope this helps.
Thanks Bill Graham been exploring that nav bar on Google Drive to select those different options. I can create a ppt or open a previously saved word doc and I can figure out how to screen share them but the thing I can't seem to find how to do is to flip through a 3 page word doc or a ppt presentation - slide to slide. Still trying to find a good video on you tube that explains that. Ugg!
I am no pro but my understanding is that google docs work best for hangouts, I thought earlier you wanted to present pictures. I might suggest creating a slide show with each page of your Power Point presentation (by cutting and pasting into a Google document) and then open your Hangout in one window, the presentation in a second window, and your pictures in a third. Once you have created your slideshows in Google Drive down the left side you will see thumbnails of each slide making it easy to change pictures and pages by clicking on them. If you want to do a short hangout and share your screen I can try and help that way.
I hope you folks got this worked out! Sounds like Bill Graham got everything straightened out Jim Burwell Added Note I did a full presentation using Google Slides in the mastery last week with images and text. I also used it's featured animation functionality. All of which went smoothly.
Michael Daniels just heading out for dog training but, no I've not solved the issue yet. I'm back between 4-5:30 CST with time to work on this. I can bring the google presentation into screen share but can't go from slide to slide. I'm sure it's something very simple and "pre-screen share" that I have to do to make it work for me. Maybe a settings thing or something. I've looked for settings or anything -- I did see a blue square button labeled "share" but thought it was for sharing with another user so didn't go there. Ideas? Suggestions? Am I getting warm yet? :-)
I would be glad to help. Keep in mind I rarely use screen share since I use Manycam for everything now. However, I would gladly help you out in any way I can . Tonight would be fine if you would like to work on this. As far as the blue button (to share)... I don't believe that is your issue since you are sharing YOUR OWN desktop. The share button is for them to have access to your shared google slide.
I would like to get Russ Worthington involved since he uses slides and screen shares quite often.
Jim Burwell, Bill Graham, Michael Daniels - While I couldn't offer too much tech help I'd really love, if possible, to listen to conversation if for nothing other than the learning experience.
Michael Daniels and Russ Worthington I am finally back home tonight by 8:15-ish and would love to get this going. We have our first dog training HOA clinic on Aug 14 (this Friday) and would love to share talking points and pics with the 1,000's who will be watching! :-) Think ++++
Jim Burwell - Sorry I missed your message from yesterday. Be happy to help out later today (after 1:30 pm Eastern). 6 HOAs this week. But I'll try to help later today. Just ping me

ReplyDeleteBill Graham when you say slide show, do you mean powerpoint presentation?
ReplyDeleteJim Burwell I would create the slideshow in Google docs.
ReplyDeleteGood. Thanks Bill Graham !
ReplyDeleteJim Burwell to be a bit more clear inside of Google drive you have the option of docs, sheet, or slides.

ReplyDeleteThanks Bill Graham give me 5 minutes ......
ReplyDeleteBy the way Bill Graham this may work better if you follow me or give me your email address so I can send you the link to get into the hangout.
ReplyDeletebilldoesbelize@gmail.com just give me 10-15 minutes if you don't mind.

ReplyDeleteAndrew Hatchett I think we could all learn from this and other knowledge-soaked conversations. After all, that's what it's all about, right?
