Latest on Lower Thirds, Overlays, Hangout Toolbox, etc Problems

Originally shared by Guillaume Lurenbaum

Hello Hangouts developers.

It seems a Hangouts update is propagating, which removes the overlay feature and is breaking all applications which are using it, as Google Effects, Business Hangouts, Hangouts Toolbar...

This is happening to more and more Google users. I think we have an emergency situation here.

Does anybody know what's going on?

Gus Class is Google aware of that? Is there a fix or a workaround?

  2. I've had this funny feeling for a while that things are changing big time. Anything from Chad LaFarge perhaps?

  3. I do believe Google is aware... but happy to alert them to more instances.

  4. Yep. As I reported previously all of my panelists started losing their lower 3rds one by one even though mine stayed on. Now even mine is gone. Producing a HOA is like shooting at a moving target these days...

  5. Until things are 100%, I recommend a backup plan: any old virtual webcam app. I use XSplit Broadcaster for this purpose, when needed. CamTwist for Macs, WebCamMax for Windows are also helpful.

  8. Sorry, Andrew Hatchett: I am not aware of a virtual webcam for ChromeOS.

  10. Chad LaFarge  No Problem, I'm not aware of one either...but then I haven't seriously been looking for one. Just thought you may know something I didn't! :)
