Hopefully I can explain this :-) 2 pics below are:
ONE on right of Jim in front of office wall that is painted a moss green.

The OTHER on left is Jim in front of wall pulling up a virtual background.

I'm pretty sure Michael Daniels uses virtual backgrounds so maybe he can tell me why this is happening.

FYI - this is NOT using hangouts, it's using Zoom.US

  1. Skin tone is too close (tolerance) to background color (or visa-versa). Need to change one or the other. Probably easier to change the paint color. There may be tolerance settings in your "green screen" software that you can tweak but with the shadows and lighting, it is unlikely that you will be successful going that route. One of the reasons green is commonly used is that it is not a natural skin color ( or tone ) and it is not usually overly reflective (causing glare spots that would be detected as whites vs greens).

  2. What software are you using to do the green screen. That is the issue. As Lon McClure mentions your settings and how much your settings allow you to edit are how you manage the color in the back.

  3. That green does not look green to me at all on my monitor. Does it to you, Leila Martin ? More gray-scale (lighter at bottom) than anything else. A more intense green may be in order here. Good luck!

  4. Leila Martin - I agree with Lon McClure, in that color doesn't look like the green that is needed. I think that Sir Michael Daniels Green Screen is greener. The color that I see in your pictures, look like about the color of what I have and it's not green enough.

  5. Russ Worthington Lon McClure Michael Daniels we are using Zoom which has it's own software for doing a virtual background. I agree that the wall is NOT a strong green like it shows in my office. We're going to go a large piece of green construction paper tomorrow to broadcast on. Hopefully that will help. The lighting in Jim's office has always been difficult.

  6. That will be a good inexpensive test (poster board). Not familiar with Zoom software. Regarding lighting, you'll want to avoid any shadows falling on the backdrop where they will be visible to the camera as those (the shadows) may appear as a different shade or even a different color to the software. Very light shadows created by several sources of illumination from different directions may work depending on the tolerances (range) allowed by Zoom. Lighting is a pain sometimes!

  7. How do you fight the camera (light glare) on the glasses. (I do a lot of video also)

  8. Arthur Morehead all I do is tilt my glasses so the arms are at an angle to the top of my head, which reduces the reflection. Hope that helps.

  9. Yes Ros Betts thank you, I understand that for myself but your guest is most likely is not going to know about this. I read somewhere that the positioning of your lighting can fix this but I just can't remember where I read it?

  10. Arthur Morehead can't remember seeing that hint regarding lighting. I would be interested to know.

  11. Leila Martin so you are using zoom instead of Hangouts? I assume it is a paid version, since they only allow 10 minutes, then make you create a new event with the free version. Is that the case?

  12. No not correct Michael Daniels You can go to Plans at Zoom.US and read all about the levels.

The FREE version of Zoom allows 40 minutes. We used that initially for about a month to see how we liked it.

We are using the first tier which is $15/month Unlimited broadcast time.

You can also use a specific plan say "webinar" plan for just the time you need it. No extended contract. Unlimited broadcast time.

We are moving to Zoom for a # of reasons
1:) I can easily bring in other videos, word docs, etc - emphasis on EASY
2.)It's recorded locally or Cloud recording (my choice) - either way I get the MP4.
3)The clarity of the video is amazing.
    4) We are also using it for our 1 to 1 private video coaching where again, we can easily share videos etc with them.
    5)NO GOOGLE ACCOUNT REQUIRED.

For US this is beyond huge!!!

Their support is outstanding. In fact Jim was just on Zoom looking something up and he got a message from a support person asking if he could help Jim.
