The new hangout interface removed apps and extension support.

The new hangout interface removed apps and extension support. Old users can still access it. But new users are always presented with new hangout interface even in HOA.
Does anyone know of any method with which new users can also access old hangout interface that had apps and extension ?

In the below pic you can see that it opens the extension preloaded by appending "&gid=app_id" in the url. But there is no way user open it again once he opens any other app. because its shortcut is not available in left hand side menu.

Andrew Hatchett  Has the Hangouts on Air interface changed? I haven't checked this out.

To the best of my knowledge there is no sure fire way to do it. As a workaround simply do a Hangout on Air and don't hit the start broadcast button. All the apps are available with a Hamgout On Air.

  5. The image attached above as you can see is of hangout on air still no "add more apps" in the left menu.
So no way to open back unifiedchat extension if user opens any of the 4 default apps.

  6. It works fine for old user accounts. But for newly created Gmail account, we have this issue.

  8. Yes Craig Long, primarily Hangout on Air is our focus issue.

  9. UnifiedChat Hangout Extension Oh I see. I didn't know that new Gmail accounts don't have all the HOA apps at the left.

  10. That's is because you must be using your regular Gmail account which was created much long ago.
If you try creating a dummy new Gmail account and with that if you repeat the process you will see the issue. Craig Long

  12. I read few other Google groups. Developers are scratching there head as to why Google just removed support for these apps and extension. This was what made HOA better than other collaboration tools.

  13. When I see big giant like Google doing stupid things like this. I get motivated to create my own videoconferencing and broadcasting tool the only issue is that this type of architecture requires heavy server resources which comes very costly.

  14. Peggy K This may be the answer as to why some people running HOAs don't have all the apps. This never occurred to me that they may have new Gmail accounts.

  15. UnifiedChat Hangout Extension that looks like the old interface when you don't have a Google+ identity associated with the YouTube channel's Google account or. Brand Account. It has always been the case that a Google+ identity is required to add the apps. Can you check that the Google account has a Google+ profile?

    (FYI Craig Long)

  19. Peggy K Strange that there is no more G+ Hangouts on Air, yet you need a G+ identity still to get all the apps.

  20. Atleast it works that way. I thought they removed apps altogether, LOL. :)

  21. Craig Long it's a holdover. And confusing!

  22. Peggy K just for the record can you tell how you make sure an account has a G+ profile or the process to make that happen?

  23. Michael Daniels currently no Google+ is created along with a YouTube channel, so any recently created channel will need to have Google+ added.

If you are using a main Google account, just sign in at plus.google.com

If your YouTube channel is on a Brand Account, there are two ways:
Sign in to your Brand Account list (https://myaccount.google.com/brandaccounts)
    Click the tube channel's name
On the Brand Account's dashboard you will see icons for Google products - see if G+ is one

    OR
    Sign in to Google+
Click your icon at top right
Select the Brand Account from the list
Once it's switched to the Brand Account see if there is the option to Join Google+ on the left menu
