I am in a quandary --
My nice shiny new channel I erected for the live music shows has been stuck at 44 subscribers for two weeks now! That seems so odd, since the views are actually blowing me away, as I didn't expect this many so fast.
(1748 views as of writing this - just recorded 29th video.)
Channel is here:

I post the finished videos to G+ and Facebook daily, and Andrew posts the upcoming shows (THANKS!!!) but it isn't getting subscriber traction. Is it because people see it is a daily show and don't want to be bothered with daily notifications? (They needn't turn those on, of course.)
What to do - what to do???!!

ReplyDeleteHave you put a link on your other Channels letting those subscribers know about the new channel?
My thoughts... subscription base sucks.
ReplyDeleteThe focus is on views, so I think you are fine. Watch your watch time also. If you are getting a bunch of drop offs in the first few seconds YouTube counts that against you big time!!!
Views matter way more than subbies.
What about your titles, tags and stuff? Let's evaluate all that and work on those together. I have a few tips that might help you out.
Also, it takes time too. More than a couple weeks.
Heather Kraafter More than a couple of weeks?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't seem fair. :-(
I'm using TubeBuddy to help insert the tags (always use as many as possible or sensible). Always have description and show notes that reflect the tags. People are finding it, just not subscribing, I guess.
Andrew Hatchett I do have a link to the music channel at the top of my recommended channels section. What I likely need to do is make an invite video for my 2600 subscribers on my main channel to see.

ReplyDeleteThe invite video is a GREAT idea - at least it would draw attention to the new channel.
I would guess too that subscription to a "tech" based channel is way more common than a music based channel.
ReplyDeleteA quick search in my sub base shows about
80% "art" related
18% "tech or business" related
2% "who the heck knows what"
Not a single music based channel other than yours and I listen to music DAILY on YouTube.
Andrew Hatchett I agree
ReplyDeleteThe Invite video sounds like a good idea!
ReplyDeleteYou may also want to try adding a branding watermark to your videos - that displays a small icon (it can be your channel icon or other) and it expands into a subscribe button when the mouse is moved over it. You can do that here: https://www.youtube.com/branding
People will see have that option even if they are watching the video embedded on Google+ (or elsewhere).
You can see mine here - I have it set to display after 5 seconds:

I don't know how to get more subscribers. Maybe go to other social media sites and post your event.
ReplyDeleteCraig Long I am planning to add some kind of light show element to some of these, and try using videos rather than stills for the music with words and pictures show. Definitely want to exploit the high-def electric sheep stuff I have!
ReplyDeleteCraig Long Thanks for the link to the free stock videos!
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton But I like watching you play.
ReplyDeletePeggy K That is another good suggestion that steers me toward thinking of what end caps I can use also.
ReplyDeleteNow aren't you sorry you asked me?🤣
ReplyDeleteCraig Long My grandfather (who died way before I was born) was one of those silent film organists (and piano, too). He also worked with all of the great vaudeville acts. His theater was the South Norwalk Palace Theater - the last stop the vaudeville acts would play before playing at the Palace in NYC, and was where the reviewers would see their shows before they opened in NY. I think I inherited some of his genes, for sure!
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton That's amazing. I guess I saw something like that in you otherwise I wouldn't have thought of that idea.
ReplyDeleteCraig Long As far as special treatments go, I will relegate those to the Wayout Sounds, Vastly Experimental and maybe the Space Movie Soundtracks shows.
ReplyDeleteI will be learning my new video editing software (Cyberlink Director 16 Ultra I got during Black Friday sales) and making more video content for Music with Words and Pictures.
Music for Unprepared Piano, IGANBAYCDTI and Melodies in Search of Chords will likely stay just raw with the two cameras.
Perhaps more interesting custom thumbnails could be fabricated? Don't know whether that would affect the subscriber rate, but it might look more interesting than the shots (on every video but the piano-only and Music with Words and Pictures ones) of me sitting at the keyboard.
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton It is very rough to get people to hit the subscribe button. I have over 400 now and need another 600 before I qualify for the Super Chat (1000 total) You have to tell people to subscribe and use video cards in your front and back entries, plus do some cover art. Sharing on Twitch and Twitter is a big thing also. Views is not that important I have over 150,000 views combined on my vids
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead I shared it to my Facebook pages I hope it helps...Peace....keep them coming....

ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton wow, such a cool heritage.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the "Banana " Audio software maybe this will help getting rid of that dang feedback I get from the three cameras I am using plus my laptop speakers and mic settings (Dell)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte Pierce Thanks for the sub! Perhaps that will break that stubborn streak of that number sitting still! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your playing and I've been sitting here listening to it while I do an extremely tedious job. It makes it so much better!
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton I'll watch from 3 devices from now on. See what happens when I'm left to my own devices...
ReplyDeleteMark Barrus Surround Sound!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton that has to be a Daniel Boone coonskin hat in the photo, right?
ReplyDeleteJohn Brown That is correct! :-)
