Recommendations for Event Page Replacement Alternatives
1). Community Centered Hangout On Air (CCHOA)
At its most basic level this method involves merely posting a video in a community category and everybody replying to that particular post so that everything remains in that particular thread. There is a 4 video series that goes into detail about this process. See: CCHOA Playlist
2). YouTube Channel
If you don’t have a community or a website where you can embed your event, this may be your best option. The biggest drawback to this option is that the live chat comments are not saved once the event has ended. You can always copy the live chat before ending the event and then paste them back as a comment when comments become available after the event ends but that gets old very quickly. There is a workaround for this [ https://unifiedchat.com ] that will be discussed later in the document - stay tuned.
3). Embed Event on your own website
Embedding your event on your own website is a great way to drive traffic to your website as well as providing a consistent location for your event. Depending on how your website is set up (theme, layout, etc.) you may or may not need to install a comment plug-in to get the result you want. While User2User can offer generalized help, the variety and scope of individual websites precludes offering detailed technical help - unless there is an expert web designer among the membership that I don’t know about!
4). Hangout On Air Wrappers (Business-Hangouts, Webinar Jam, Crowdcast, UnifiedChat Hangouts Extension*, etc.)
These wrapper Apps offer many advantages of the Event Page as well as added features. Some have free versions, some don’t. Some automatically record to YouTube while others don’t. Some can stand alone while others can also be embedded on a website. All of them provide a way to keep video and comments together.
A special note about UnifiedChat Hangouts Extension…
UnifiedChat only saves the last 10 comments - but…
Last night while helping Ronnie Bincer test some things it was noted that if a Hangout On Air was started using the yellow “Start a Hangout On Air” button at https://unifiedchat.com the YouTube page displayed the Comment area rather than the live-chat area. More testing showed that the actual comments made during a live event remained even after the event was over. Thus, starting from the UnifiedChat site and directing them to the YouTube page where they can make comments before, during, and after the event may offer a solution.
