Hi Andrew, I saw you supporting Lisa yesterday in her course and for me several questions  arose and I wonder if you can answer them to me:
1. In the first course session on tuesday the event was planned with business hangout, then changed. What reason would I have to use business hangout for such a course, which is mainly teaching up front?
2. The first session then was broadcasted via youtube. Is it normal for youtube events that the comments appear on the right side? Do they stay then forever on the youtube page?
3. For yesterday's event  a link was  sent out which took us again to Youtube. Then Lisa announced that it was a G+ event and I had no idea how to get to G+ from Youtube. Is there any way of switching from youtube to G+, any hidden link which would allow that?
4. I found the link in the internal chat and could switch to G+.
I wanted to post the link to the viewers on you tube who were disoriented by not knowing how to get there, but Youtube comments don't allow links. Does it mean that ONLY from G+ you can join a hangout?
5. On the G+ page was a blue button "join hangout", but clicking on it wpoeple said they ended up somewhere else or nowhere (I didn't try it out), . Obviously this was NOT a way to enter into the filmstrip. How come? Why is this button there in the first place? Any special way of setting up the event?
6. I noticed that Carrie was not aware of the people watching and commenting on YOuTube. Does Comment tracker collect ONLY the comments from G+? How can the youTube comments be visible to the entire audience, or at least to the hosts?

As I am planning similar events to Lisa's course I would love to know these technical things and what I need to be aware of.
Thank you very very much!
Heidi

  2. I know these questions were asked of Andrew Hatchett but I am going to give my two cents for what it is worth.

In the case of this event, the host made last minute changes to how she was to present to the viewing audience.  Many issues occur when you spend weeks working on one system and then switch gears just a couple days before it goes live.

I would suggest that if you are planning a teaching style format you look at what you want your audience to experience and how much time and energy you are willing to put into learning the correct process that will allow them the experience you want them to have.
    THEN...stick to it!

Comment tracker picks up YouTube comments automatically by the way, it is a part of the system, but the host MUST initiate the comment tracker in order for that to work.

I could go on, but I think what needs to be made clear is that for YOUR event, work at learning the system that works best for what you want to do and then stick to it, is the best advice I can give.

  3. correction:
My final statement about the YouTube comments...it turns out something broke yesterday and the creator of the comment tracker has said that at this moment all that is broken until Google fixes it.  So that is that for now.

  4. Thanks Heather Kraafter - didn't know about comment tracker being broken.

  5. Thank you a lot Andrew Hatchett  and Heather Kraafter . I will ask some questions to Lisa directly when she has finished the course.
Can it be that just in the comment stream on YOuTube it is not allowed to post links while afterwards on the recording there might be the possibility.
Thanks for the hint for the event-folders for e-mails. In my inbox is a real mess....
Thanks for your kind offer to hangout with me. I will come back to it when I really need it, don't want to bother you for things I can find out myself.  Thank you!!!

  6. Adelheid Hörnlein Re: YouTube Commenting, I've never tried to comment while watching a live event so really don't know.

  7. again - YouTube comments are currently broken.  Please do not use this one case to clarify the YouTube commenting situation.

  8. Heather Kraafter Ahhhhh... I misread your  earlier post as comment tracker being broken - didn't realize it was actually YouTube comments that was broken.

  9. Thanks, everyone. If I understand this all correction: We CAN use the Comments Tracker the ordinary way and set that up within an SHOA, which ordinarily WOULD include both the G+ event page's comments AND the YouTube site's comments during a live presentation. However, until further notice, the Youtube comments WON'T be joining the event's page comments because that feature is broken.

  10. Ok. Thanks to both of you. I will try it out when it works properly again. I was just curious if there is a way to switch from You<Tube to G+ easily as it is the other way round.

  11. My 2 cents:
    1) You would use a business hangout because:
    a) Business folks understand Webinars
    b) You want to collect emails
    c) You want chat to be/stay right beside the video
    d) For your viewer you want then to see a larger screen than a G+ Event or a YouTube Event
    e) You want to bring people into the film strip without giving or finding a link
    d) You want details section to show larger font and beautiful area with YouTube thumbnails. Whatever you can create with it's HTML editor.
    f) Showing your audience a secure website or a video RIGHT in the hangout that is not recorded (so no worries of copyright).
    g) Embed your event on YouTube. After all don't you want them to come to your site? What if Google + goes away? You own your site, they own G+
    h) No need to worry about comment tracker or finding a re-share and possibly YouTube not working.
    2) this was answered
    3) Getting to G+ from YouTube
    a) No there is no way that I have found to get to G+ from YouTube
    b) In the past we used to click next to our icon and it had an option to go to G+
    4) Was answered
    5) Blue join now buttton
When you set up a traditional Event (not a SHOAE) you have an option to have the hangout online only.  She chose this.  Therefore you had a "Join Hangout" button.  She had no intention of using this hangout or button, so that should NOT be checked if you are adding a YouTube video.
    6) was answered
