It appears that the '*Places*' section on the old Google+ profile and the new About Me profile has been changed a bit. It used to be limited to the number of places that could be added but now seems open ended as well as the character limit for the field has been greatly increased - see attached image.

This could well serve as a substitute to the "Story" section on the G+ profile which was not included on the new AboutMe profile.
