New question: The last two HOAs did not broadcast live.

New question:  The last two HOAs did not broadcast live... any suggestions other than having a back up HOA ready to roll in case?

  1. WE had the same issue this past Friday. For US it did not show as going live - we were using Chrome. BUT, for our viewers on our website who were using a different browser, they could see us. All of this came to light after the fact. We shut it down, re-did it the next day as a private and put the link on the page on our site for them to view. NEXT time the second computer will be open in FireFox so I can see if there is an issue. ;-) Lesson learned

  2. Hmm, yes we use chrome too... it happened for our last two Wednesday shows.  It recorded and loaded properly onto youtube but our viewers on the original event page couldn't see us broadcasting live - even though inside the event it said we were live...  such a googly thing ;)

  4. Hi, Myste Lyn . I have a feeling things will iron themselves, for the most part. As you know, my  #SMMSmarties  and #WHATISTHEPOSIVE  shows have been plagued with the same issue of the live broadcast failing, and requiring the creation of a new HOA and URL redirect to continue with live interactive broadcasting.

Today, for the first time in weeks, broadcasting from the original event page went without a hitch, including Comment Tracker, which also worked last Saturday, although in that broadcast, we did have to redirect to a new HOA  as you have been. Today the HOA worked fine.

It may be the Google changes are catching up to correct certain issues. One theory I have is that with standard Hangouts, i.e. NOT HOAs, Google is opting to use P2P (peer-to-peer) networks instead of their own Google servers, thus freeing up their own servers, and maybe creating the needed "headroom" for smooth functionality. My two regular issues have been 1) Comment Tracker (addon app) malfunction, and 2) Failed live broadcast, such as you have been experiencing.  Today both issues did not present.

I suggest a practice HOA to see if maybe Google new platform rollout has reached you, and see if the problem no longer exists. Glad to join, and help if I can be of service.

  5. This is an issue that has been happening for weeks. Please leave tons of feedback. Instead of creating a SHOAE I would create a G+ event and create a hangout on air on the YouTube side and put it in a traditional event. Then if this happens you can be ready with a backup and enter it quickly. Obviously, you cannot do this with a SHOAE since it has the hangout inside.
If you want help with setting this up, I may be in tonight in the user 2 user session at 8:30 eastern.

  6. Russ Worthington if this happens with you using business hangouts, it is an easy fix using the reset button.

  8. Thanks Michael Daniels I watched your video and enjoyed your editing plays.  I am still wondering why do it that way... you mentioned using it as a backup - so lets say we hit broadcast and it says we're live but viewers can't see us (this has happened 3 weeks in a row) - how do we quickly move our guests and live audience over to our back up?  Where exactly is our back up?

What I did for this week, as a cautionary measure, was to create a second HOA that was ready for us to jump over to - we did this - still lost some viewers but better than no viewers.

Last question: you said leave tons of feedback - I'm assuming this is to Google - where do I leave this?
Thanks!  And sorry I wasn't around the other night to connect.
