This is a YouTube question so perhaps this isn't the forum, but since you're all so great, I'll share here first:
My YouTube hosted event shared audio yesterday but not today... any ideas?
Now I'm looking into the Beta live streaming as an option and have downloaded wirecast as an encoder but the instructions for set up are from old youtube templates... suggestions?

  1. Myste Lyn -- One thing that I always do, when entering a HOA, or starting one, I Check my settings, to make sure that the Mic and Speaker settings are correct. Default is not the right answer, as I have learned

  2. Good one, Russ Worthington ! If we ALWAYS had to adjust settings, that's one thing. But for most of a year, I didn't have to. Then in December, HOAs were reverting to "Default" settings. Couldn't figure out what was going on... nor, "why now?"

  3. I would suggest trying out OBS or Xsplit and then screenshare a Hangouts Video Call:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Og3V9zX9BM&list=PL3DuPQoR_3AEGQlSgI0TszXuv_U64_tHF
It is a bit more complicated to initially set up than an HOA but the settings are remembered.

Wirecast is not free whereas OBS is.  Right Terry Leigh Britton ?  Terry has done several OBS broadcasts.

  4. OBS is entirely free, no matter how many inputs you have. Wirecast has a free version, but it only allows a single input.

  6. Thanks everyone!  I may look into OBS; is it user friendly Terry Leigh Britton ?  And any reason for choosing this over xsplit Craig Long ?

  7. Myste Lyn The full version of Xsplit is not free but there is a free version of Xsplit available.  Xsplit is great at grabbing my full screen monitor.  With OBS you need to adjust the screen capture a bit but it's not difficult.  I have recently added a second monitor to my setup which gives me plenty of room to run a full screen game or Hangouts Video Call and keep an eye on Xsplit or OBS and the YouTube Live Stream on the second monitor.  I've been working with screensharing 3D games but could as well been screensharing Hangouts Video Calls.
You can see the quality of the broadcast here but without a 3D monitor you will only see 2 pictures:

  8. Myste Lyn This is the information you will need and you can search YouTube for How To use those YouTube Live encoders:

I consider it user friendly. I love the fact one can assign keyboard shortcuts to change scenes (video arrangements). I have a bunch of "getting started" videos at the OBS playlist here:  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLADO0ZcWBBb62Fn-ExV1PwiAliCA-j7Rw

  11. Myste Lyn When I started for the first time I just followed some of these tutorials to get the settings: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+live+stream+to+youtube+with+obs

I doesn't matter if it's a gaming livestream tutorial because it's just basically live screensharing.
