CORRECTION TO POST

On May 2nd I posted about the new $169 Asus C201 Chromebook (https://plus.google.com/u/0/101486004679658584691/posts/WKt69FksZj1).

I took that information from a post made on May 1, 2015 by Justin Diaz (http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/05/asus-launches-their-rockchip-powered-c201-chromebook-with-up-to-13-hours-of-battery-life.html).

The information about inclusion of an Ethnert port and a USB 3.0 port have since proved to be in error and neither are included in the production models of the Asus C201.

  1. Thanks for the correction Andrew Hatchett. I found this out the hard way :-(

Other than that, I like it just fine. I'll let you know how it goes wuth my first HOA tomorrow.

Here's the model I just got:
ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS02 11.6-Inch Laptop (Navy Blue)

  2. I'm still mightily impressed with the camera they are giving you, after seeing Andrew's demo. It rivaled the C920 to my eyes. I'm anxious to hear more reports from folks who succeeded in producing HOA's using this machine - particularly how screen shares went, since I know the camera is awesome.

  3. So far I found the camera was not nearly as good as my C920 Terry Leigh Britton, but I'll keep trying it.

  4. Melita Noël Cantú That camera might need lots of light. Andrew Hatchett what is your lighting setup again?

  5. Terry Leigh Britton      I have two 15 W (replaces 60W)Compact Fluorescent bulbs. One is in a clamp light pointed straight up and reflecting off of two walls and the ceiling. The other is in a shadeless lamp directly behind the clamp light also reflecting off of two walls and the ceiling as well as throwing light directly on my face. I also have a three fixture ceiling light above and behind me with a regular 60W bulb in each fixture.

  6. Andrew Hatchett  So, about the equivalent of 300 watts of incandescent light, then.

  7. Terry Leigh Britton Yes- 120W in front of me and 180W behind me from above.

  9. Melita Noël Cantú,
Judging from your HOA today, it didn't appear that you need much more (if any) lighting. Was it done with Ethernet and the C920?

  10. Melita Noël Cantú and Andrew Hatchett : So much appreciate all this investigative work. At the very end of the discussion, could you please tell us what you finally agreed on? Thank you for all your work and expectations on our behalves (those of us without a Chromebook for now). I'll feel 'normal' when I'm part of the program. Bless you for your time and energy. Dr. Aranda

  11. Andrew Hatchett I used the C920 and wifi. I haven't figured out how to connect ethernet to the Chromebook yet. Is there a piece of equipment that helps with that?

Since it was dark outside with the rain I decided to add another bright light to the mix. I'll have to try the internal camera with this set-up to see how it looks Terry Leigh Britton.

  12. Dr Margaret Aranda There's no ethernet connection but I like the size, speed and ease of this little machine. Btw, I purchased the 4 gigabyte (instead of 2) version for $199.

  13. Melita Noël Cantú Nice. I'm looking forward to getting mine when the budget lets me...and I hope that's sooner, rather than later. Thank you Andrew Hatchett for the clarification; proved useful indeed. This is my Fav group because you are all so kind and helpful. The sincerity just arises from the laptop, abundantly clear. It's so palpable and so very much appreciated. Thank you all.
