Let's play a game
Let's play a game
Everyone can play. It is called...........
Let's make a Guest Checklist
We are going to make a checklist of all the things that you think are important to tell your guests before they come into a hangout as a "Guest".
Here are the rules: (I know, I know Me with rules LOL!)
1) Only ONE comment per member here in the community. I know it will be tempting to add many more, please just 1. I really want this to be collaborative.
2) Please don't repeat someone else's comment. If you happen to write at the same time as someone else, the first person's we will keep and the 2nd person deletes theirs and adds something else.
3) I would like this list to be searchable in this community so be sure it is on topic of what a Guest needs before being a guest.
Thanks Everyone!
who wants to go first :)

OK- They need to determine if they have the bandwidth to handle a HOA.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you furnish your host with a brief bio and photo for the trailer, or event page so they can let people know who you are and why you should be viewed
ReplyDeletehead phones or ear buds are a must!
ReplyDeleteIf applicable, have screen share materials open (preferably as Google Drive documents) and ready. When you are called upon to do so, sharing will be a quick, seemless, and smooth operation.
ReplyDeleteArrange for a test HOA prior to the real thing to spot problems and have time to correct them.
ReplyDeleteLIghting, Lighting, LIghting. Have good light to the side of in front of you, not behind you
ReplyDeleteNo interruptions: turn off devices, alerts, landline; put an "On Air" sign on the closed door.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you are Muted upon entering the HOA as a courtesy to the host. Immediately ask for a sound check if possible.
ReplyDeleteIf joining live, in progress HOA, make sure that the event page video is stopped or when using it as a monitor event stream is muted
ReplyDeletePlease turn off the radio or television set blaring away in the adjoining room.
ReplyDeleteTell family members your plans so you will not be disturbed if it is recording.
ReplyDeleteRemember to smile, smile, smile! Even when not in the main window, if you are seen in the filmstrip below. It is easy to get caught up in the conversation, look thoughtful, look bored, etc. The audience sees all...you are on camera. Smile! Especially if someone is taking a snapshot of the Hangout... you don't want to have a frowny face put out there. So just keep smiling till your cheeks hurt :)
ReplyDeleteTurn off/close ALL other browser windows and keep the URL of the HOA in a text doc on your phone or device for easy re-entry if you get kicked out.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Sally Sue Ember , you are cheating!
ReplyDeleteOnly one contribution per member according to rule number 1 above.... (Excellent addition, though!) Michael Daniels , what are we to do about this situation??? :-|
Take a deep breath, stretch, and relax.... It's not brain surgery.
ReplyDeleteCheck your microphone and speaker/headphones settings before you go into the Hangout. If your like me I'm constantly deactivating and activating devices.
ReplyDeleteTell your guest to relax and just be entertaining.
ReplyDeleteTell them -- be yourself, authentic and genuine.
ReplyDeleteTechnical addition to the list:
ReplyDeleteBe sure you are on Chrome browser or FireFox for the best experience.
(Ya, I am cheating too Terry Leigh Britton by adding another tip)
Heather Kraafter Unnerving...
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton well, someone kind of duplicated my first one and you did not ding her, so I felt entitled to add one [sticking out my tongue]!
ReplyDeleteMake sure the guest knows where to get the invitation to enter the green room (can be confusing to newbies).
ReplyDeleteGreat point, Christina Ervin ! Should be way up on the list!
ReplyDeleteSally Sue Ember I agree with you, and shall speak up on your behalf when the matter comes before Sir Michael Daniels in the upcoming tribunal exercises. (I shan't be speaking in defense of Heather Kraafter however, as her infractions were obviously blatant and clear acts of civil disobedience...)
ReplyDeleteHmmm.... wonder what happens if I become dis-civilly obedient?? ;)
ReplyDeleteAndrew Hatchett Not as much, nor more - that is, about the same.
ReplyDeleteBreaking me up!!!
ReplyDeleteretracted
ReplyDeleteMaybe, Tim Longwell . Or, maybe he has his list, and is just letting US be squirrely!
ReplyDeleteChristina Ervin made the last valid comment, and as a newbie showed great insight. Where can we go from here? :o)
ReplyDeleteHeather Kraafter you forgot to mention Jane, re you comment at 1:49. We lost 'pertinent additions to this topic' long ago. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a couple others if the rules get relaxed a bit😉
ReplyDeleteChristina Ervin - I want to hear your ideas, if no one else can get beyond rules. Wise advice is more important than the game. This is important stuff. I am your supporter in this.
ReplyDeleteFolks, please don't be offended.
ReplyDeleteI am going to delete some of your comments that are not on topic.
I really would like this to be a helpful yet searchable post.
If you would like to remove your not on topic posts, please do so.
I am fine with more than one post if it is on topic.
You folks have added some great things.
I thank you
Christina Ervin - Michael Daniels has not stepped into the fray to moderate past the initial posting. One might determine that trespass of rules is acceptable if those earlier got away with it. Ah, just read Michael's follow up. Fire away, Christina. Thanks Michael.
ReplyDeleteKnuckles Roland Takaoka!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good idea to join in the pre-promotion efforts with the host to give their audience a chance to get to know you and yours a chance to know them. That's also a good way to be in service as it gives everyone more exposure.
I like to make sure guests are familiar with the apps I'm using, particularly the chat app, which is very handy for the panel/host communication during the hangout
Show up to green room 15-30 min early
