Hi all, is anyone awake & able to help me trouble - shoot my mic issues? I did a tech check in to prepare for my HOA tomorrow on my new Asus Chromebook (thanks Andrew Hatchett for the suggestion!). It was strange though that I couldn't get my external mic working.
Any thoughts ***, Michael Daniels, John Brown, any other night owls out there?
Melita Noël Cantú let me set up my Chromebook and see what we can figure out
ReplyDeleteThanks Tim Longwell. My baby just woke up so I will be a few minutes to settle her back in. I'll be online again shortly.
ReplyDeleteMelita Noël Cantú Have you set your external mike as the default audio input device? You do that by right clicking on picture in lower right hand corner where it shows the time, then click on the drop down menu next to the speaker. Click on your external mike and all should be good.
ReplyDeleteHah, beat me to it Andrew Hatchett I was just typing that in. Might also want to make sure the mic is set to the external mic inside the HOA as well.
ReplyDeleteI think I have it set. It's just that I am not sure if it's working. I am online now Tim Longwell.
ReplyDeleteMelita Noël Cantú Send an invite and we can test it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew Hatchett & Tim Longwell. I just tested my other headset and ear buds wuth Tim and they worked fine. The challenge is that the settings in the hangout are only at Default and don't show any of my plugged in options. Strange but at least I know the ear buds work now. I'd never used the mic.
ReplyDeleteMelita Noël Cantú On the Chrome OS the only selectable options that show in the gearwheel are the camera(s) attached to you chromebook. All other devices (mikes, headsets, internal or external speakers, etc.) must be selected as default devices as I described before.
ReplyDeleteGot it Andrew Hatchett. Any idea why my Plantronics MX500i 3-in-1 Headset headset (which plugs into the USB) only works as a mike for the Chromebook, but not headset? I think that was the main thing really messing me up.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I had ear buds with a mike that could be plugged into the speakers to work for input and output.
Also, I thought this Asus Chromebook had a ethernet port.
Other than these issues, I am loving this little machine - super fast and easy and doesn't crash on me like my old laptop! We'll see how the HOA goes tomorrow. Crossed fingers!
Melita Noël Cantú You should select Speakers (USB) under the OUtput section where you set the external mike as the input.
ReplyDeleteExactly which model of the Asus Chromebook did you get? The Asus C201 is supposed to have an Ethernet port from what has been written about it.
OK- seems pre-release liturature said it would have an ethernet port but actual production models didn't include one. Sorry, didn'r Mean to mislead.
ReplyDeleteYou are so great, Andrew Hatchett and Tim Longwell! Thanks for all you, Michael Daniels and others in this awesome User2User-LIVE! [The Page] Community for HOA hosts! Hope Melita Noël Cantú gets it all working.
ReplyDeleteMelita Noël Cantú you will find that folks in the group are The most helpful folks on G+. Plus they are extremely patient and I know this because some of my questions have required extreme patience on their end and they have been awesome ;-)
