Your Brand & G+: Using Communities to Promote, Engage, and Influence

Google+ has quickly become one of the premiere social media platforms in the world. Much of the success of G+ has been due to the ingenious inclusion of Communities which are basically user-created discussion forums organized around a particular subject. This is where G+ can really have an impact on your brand.

While it’s never okay to use your G+ Community to actively advertise your business (Google has some serious push-back if you try so don’t take the risk) you can still provide a place for your partners and customers to interact with each other by sharing best practices, asking and answering questions, and discussing important topical information. This can be a very powerful tool for increasing brand awareness and promoting your company’s reputation as an industry leader

Your customers are one of the best resources you have as a business. Why? Because user-generated content (UGC) is king today, and no place gives you the opportunity to leverage that content better than G+. User-generated content refers to the photos, videos, and comments your Community members leave on your page. This type of content is seen as more trustworthy, more memorable, and more influential by users than traditional marketing materials, and, best of all, it’s free of charge Ask your members to share, create a photo/video contest, or come up with any other way to increase involvement. Then all you have to do is give members the freedom to voice their opinions, engage with them regularly, and sit back and watch the UGC fly!

With more than 1.6 billion people using social media every day for an average of 5.4 hours, there’s a limitless, untapped reservoir of potential customers just waiting to join your business Community So give them what they want – a relevant, targeted, topical forum where they can share their ideas and experiences. All you have to do is stay engaged, stay on topic, and stay on mission. Your customers will do the rest!
