Hi! I was just approved. I am VERY excited because I am starting to teach a live course, scheduled for Monday -- and there are still glitches in my Live Stream HOA. I got a LOT of help from Craig Long at the forum for HOA and also Chad LaFarge and harish Bali on the forum as well. However, Craig suggested you, so this is great!
I have 2 questions: #1 in testing it out w a friend, there seems to be an echo. She is hearing me twice. I did NOT have this problem with another friend, just one. We tried lowering my sound and hers but it did not help. Also the video replay does not show this problem.
#2 My course needs to have all students be anonymous. These students have been personally screened by me by phone. How do we make the chat not be their real names?
Thank you SO much!
Hello Dr. Hirschhorn,
ReplyDeleteLet's take #2 first... To the best of my knowledge, there is no way (short of opening a second Google Account under an alias or using 3rd party software) to not show the present Userid in Hangout On Air.
As for the echo ... have your friend look at her browser tabs. If she sees more than one tab with a little microphone on it then she needs to close all but one of them except the one you are appearing on.
Feel free to join us in our daily Q&A sessions ar 10:30 AM Central and 8:00 PM Central Mon-Thurs.
Thank you Andrew. You can definitely call me Deb!
ReplyDeleteRe the echo, I don't think anything else was open on my friend's computer. I can check w her on that, though. If that's not it, then what else would you recommend?
Re the chat, so what advice do you have? Is there a separate hangout for Business that has an anonymous chat?
Appreciate your help!
Oh, and I already have appointments at those times so I can't do that before my course Monday.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the group Dr. Deb Hirschhorn.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, what a nice offer! I appreciate it. Well, I will be w family til Saturday night, but when I get home, if that is not too late, that would be helpful. Either that at 8 PM Eastern or Sunday morning. What is good for you?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bill
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn
ReplyDeleteYour choice as I can work with either. Nothing planned for either Sat or Sun. ;)

ReplyDeleteSuggestion for yourself AND your guest. ALWAYS check your settings (gear wheel, top center) for your Camera, Mic, and Speakers. Default or Communications are not the right setting. Echo's, from my experience, come when those settings are not right, especially with "built in" Mic and Speakers are selected or that the Default or "Communication" is what is in the pull down menu. Select the Camera, Mic and Headset that you are using. (and your guests)
Russ
oh, and welcome
I would love to jhelp as well if you need the help
ReplyDeleteThank you Cousin Russ for that. I thought I had done it in the Control Room - but not the gear wheel. I will try that.
ReplyDeleteSo - Andrew and Michael Daniels - let me try this suggestion w my friend first and then maybe the problem will be solved and I won't need the additional help. But thank you kindly for offering. Much appreciated.
Dr. Deb Hirschhorn
ReplyDeleteI hope it works ... but if you needs us just yell.
;)
Dr. Deb Hirschhorn Thanks for the kind words. Glad you're here where you can get help from all these nice people.
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn sounds to me like you're getting feed back from one ot the others who are on the same channel, One would need to turn their mic down, everyone should be wearing headphones from my understanding
ReplyDeleteGood news! I solved the echo problem! I'm so proud of myself!! She was using firefox and I asked her to switch to chrome and presto! No echo! But thank you all for offering to help!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got the problem solved!
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn That's great. I don't know why Firefox gave her problems.
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone! Just wanted you to know that my first class was tonight and content-wise it went very well! People really liked it. But I will definitely look into the advice, Craig, for watch2gether because niltalk just disappears if you don't use it for a while. So there we were with everyone paying close attention to me (that's good!) and not chatting and it disappeared!

ReplyDeleteHi Craig, So I am watching your demo of watch2gether. The interface has changed from when Kevin made the video. There is no navigation, no place to paste in the link you want and no instructions. (I guess that's what you get for free .) However, by chance I went to my email and saw a confirmation was required for my profile. When I clicked that, I could save the room and then paste the link from youtube into the search bar below. THAT brought up my video which I could then add to the playlist. But anyway, since the whole interface has changed, perhaps you or your colleague, Kevin, could make a new demo. Thanks, for your help!
ReplyDeleteNote, Craig, it seems this watch2gether does not work in real time. It records a video and stops the recording or something. It is not live. Or at least, I can't get it to be live.
ReplyDeleteBusiness Hangouts is expensive You can get Livestream cheaper than this I believe Why wouldn't you just use OBS ?
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead She is using Hangouts on Air.
ReplyDeleteI'm using Nvidia GeForce Experience for that live video. It does full screens and I can just click the Broadcast button and get everything to YouTube fast.
Well, I found another solution. I'm sticking with HOA simply because it has been working for me. PureChat is great. Easy. Free. I just pasted the code in my site and when my stream starts, I will click the dashboard to "available." People don't need to sign in and they don't need a handle. So tonight is my second class and I will let you all know how that goes!
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn Sure, let us know.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm going to give a report on how purechat went. I was able to figure it out (the instructions weren't so good) and it worked well. It is anonymous. The code is placed either on the whole site or just a page of the site. When you click on "available" people can chat in real time. Otherwise, you get an email.
ReplyDeleteBut, of course there had to be a problem - which was that I could not download the entire video of the class. It ran 1 1/2 hours. So I kept trying. Then Google wouldn't let me because I'd already tried 5 times. Now, I have to wait 24 hours. I don't know why it wouldn't complete the download.....
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn You should be able to download without problems unless it hasn't processed fully or because of copyrighted material in your video.
ReplyDeleteHave you downloaded your videos before? If so you know how to do that.
Dr. Deb Hirschhorn https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/56100?hl=en
ReplyDeleteYes, Craig, I have been downloading my videos for years from Youtube. This is the first time where every time I tried, I got only a few minutes of the video. I made the assumption that there was a problem with the download but you are saying, no, the problem is it probably wasn't fully processed. Then why is it I could view the complete video right there on youtube?
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn You can view the video even if it hasn't processed fully.
ReplyDeleteCraig, you nailed it! It didn't process fully yesterday. Today, 24 hrs later, it downloaded fine. So the fault was mine for rushing it. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteDr. Deb Hirschhorn Oh, that's great!
