I think Andrew Hatchett tried something like this a while back but this seems to be a well thought out approach for some YouTube Live Event users.

Using Google Spaces as a substitute for Google+ Events
something to consider if you're doing Hangouts On Air

Gary Solomon It seems Productive Computer Systems took it far deeper than I did when I did mine.
ReplyDeleteYes, he really has worked out a nice use of Spaces to cover almost everything that was previously available with Events. It is worth considering...
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting, I will check it out. I will have a 5 months series and look for a way how to have comments to bring up with comment tracker. Does this work with spaces?
ReplyDeleteProductive Computer SystemsTwo questions: Can you embed this on a website? What do those inside the green room see - Can they add their resources and comments in Spaces during the broadcast?
ReplyDeleteHeidi, I don't believe Comment Tracker works with Spaces...or at least it didn't. Things may have changed now.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew Hatchett !
ReplyDeleteLowellAnn Fuglsang I thought this might be interesting also for you. Just was thinking how to post it into your community - and her you are! (Synchronicity!)
Good idea Adelheid Hörnlein
ReplyDeleteThanks much for sharing this, Gary Solomon.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe so, Adelheid Hörnlein. Since apps aren't supported on HOAs, whatever works today may not work tomorrow.
LowellAnn Fuglsang, you can't embed this on a site, but you can link to it from anywhere. The thing to consider is security. In other words, if you link to the Space publicly somewhere, that would mean that anyone could potentially see, share it elsewhere etc. Spaces is very capable, but it's not fully baked, if you will. You can't change existing entries, you can't rearrange them, you can't delete replies, and if you get a rogue user - you may need to through the process of recreating the link for the Space, which means you'll need to share the new one with people you still want to have access. So, as long as you understand the limitations - you can act as you see fit.
As for green room, it's really a function of the HOA, not Space. Anytime who joined the Space can post anything they want, without any limitations. Remember, even though you might be using HOA with Space, in reality it's a virtual connection, not a physical one. The comments are part of the Space, not HOA, which is why you could work in a Space before, during and after the HOA.
One more thing I neglected to mention in my video is the organization of Spaces. Google didn't do anything there so far either, ie you could potentially have a ton of Spaces very quickly, but due to them being shown in alphabetical order, you can easily bring some of the ones that are frequently used to the top by adding a prefix like 'a', so instead of calling a Space 'Keep Google Keep', you'd call it 'a Keep Google Keep' and when you get done - either delete it or (my recommendation) - simply change that 'a' to a 'z', which will stick it in the end of the Spaces list.
ReplyDeleteOf course you can always use colors to represent various groups, but you can't archive, filter or do anything else, so these prefixes are handy. And you can use any other letters to force sorting precisely as you wish.
Excellent suggestion!
ReplyDeleteThanks for clarificatons Productive Computer Systems
ReplyDeleteOn the first part when you talk about Calendar... I believe this adds another calendar to my calendar, not an Event, is that correct?
ReplyDeleteI think if you add a blank space in front of your title it will sort to the top. Then just take the space out once it is over. Then everything sorts accordingly.
ReplyDeleteNo, Michael Daniels, it adds an event. You just want to make sure the calendar is public, not private. Most personal calendars are private, so if yours is private - simply add a public calendar (one time endeavor), just for these kinds of events.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, unfortunately neither space, nor special characters sort as you think, has to be a letter.
ReplyDeleteGood to know. Thank you
