New Options to help People JOIN INTO your Hangout Video Calls
There have always been many ways to Invite People Into your Hangout Filmstrip but lots of people still struggle with helping people enter or join the call.

Perhaps that is why Google just added a few more easy-peasy options to invite people into your Hangout Video Call or Hangout on Air (HOA) filmstrip.

You can now press a Gmail "M" logo or press a G+ logo to have the invitation link automatically included in a Gmail Email message or a Google+ Post respectively... who sees that email or post is up to you.

You'll see these options after using the "Invite People" icon at the top of the video call interface (1) if you are the HOA Host or it is a Hangout Video Call.

Controlling the Broadcast Camera for Hangouts on Air
There are many ways that the Hangout on Air (HOA) Host can control what the live viewers see and what the recorded video shows for their HOA Broadcasts.

Using the Cameraman App is just one of them, but it is an option that gives HOA Hosts important controls like showing the filmstrip or not and hiding or showing guests at certain times. The Cameraman app is working behind the scenes when you use the highlighted thumbnail menus in the attached screenshot to show or hide guests in the broadcast.

To understand all the various options for controlling the HOA Broadcast Camera, you'll want to watch both hour long presentations (part 1 & part 2) made for Hangout Mastery members.

The Google Helpouts tool/system is scheduled to shut down on April 20, 2015. If you are a helpouts provider, you can run your own...

I created a way to do private online consultations using Hangouts and Hangouts on Air long before Helpouts ever existed ...and it still works today.

The one thing that is missing is the 'directory' site where people come to find you.

We're having a 2014 Hangout on Air Christmas & Holiday Party

Join us in the filmstrip to party... ten people at a time on video, unlimited numbers of partiers watching & participating via comments (Mastery members or not). We'll do a round-robin entry into the filmstrip. Everyone that is a current or former Hangout Mastery member will be invited into the filmstrip.

We'd love to hear how you've enjoyed your time in the Mastery as well as who you've made friends with since being here, plus let us know what you have planned for the new year... and any other office party-type thing is welcome... wear a costume or just put on a virtual (or real) hat if you like.

When someone leaves the filmstrip, Mastery folk can jump right in. Be watching my profile page for the "join hangout" button. Remember there is a delay with what you see so anticipate when to check the button's status.

Caution for HOA Hosts regarding the HOA Permalink
Recently Google introduced the Hangout Link to Bookmark shown below. It makes sense for sharing it for Hangout Video Calls (HVC), but may cause you trouble if you share it for a Hangout on Air (HOA).

If the Host of a HOA shares the link to that HOA, those that use it can enter into the HOA Interface (aka be a video participant in the filmstrip). However, be warned... there is a possible problem with using that link to enter the HOA filmstrip.

If the filmstrip guest or guests arrive into the HOA interface before the Host and the Host uses the same shared link to enter into the HOA interface, there may not be any green "Start Broadcast" button for the host to press to start the broadcast. That's a pretty big problem to have!

Instead, if the HOA Host enters into the HOA interface via the Blue "Start" button, then there is a much better chance that the "Start Broadcast" button will be there for the host to use... even if some of the guests arrive inside before the host does.

Big Tip: the HOA Host should always use the Blue "Start" button to enter into the HOA when ready to start the broadcast.
