Google: Hangouts will shift its focus to the enterprise user with Allo and Duo taking over the consumer market

But today Google’s VP of communication products, Nick Fox, told Engadget  more about their plans.

Fox revealed that after the release of Allo and Duo, Google Hangouts isn't going away but will shift its focus to the enterprise user with Allo and Duo taking over the consumer market.

Allo and Duo will be the company's main consumer chat plays.

"Because Hangouts is built on a Google account, because it's deeply integrated with Google apps, the Apps suite [apps like Drive, Docs, etc.], Gmail, Calendar and so on, it's seen much more success in the enterprise," Fox told Ehgadget.

"It will increasingly focus on that kind of group collaboration enterprise productivity space."

Duo's focus is extreme simplicity, and anyone who's used Hangouts for any length of time will admit it's not the simplest of services. For example, you can do video calls with multiple participants in Hangouts, while Duo allows only one-to-one video calling.

Fox also said that Google recognized that it didn't make sense to have one app do everything, something we've seen from companies like Facebook, which controversially broke messaging out of its main app.

"We've historically tried to do a lot in a single app, but the reality is that [video and text] are pretty different types of communication," Fox says.

"We see them differently, and we think we'll be able to build the best experiences by building focused experiences that do what they're intended to do really, really well."

New Options to help People JOIN INTO your Hangout Video Calls
There have always been many ways to Invite People Into your Hangout Filmstrip but lots of people still struggle with helping people enter or join the call.

Perhaps that is why Google just added a few more easy-peasy options to invite people into your Hangout Video Call or Hangout on Air (HOA) filmstrip.

You can now press a Gmail "M" logo or press a G+ logo to have the invitation link automatically included in a Gmail Email message or a Google+ Post respectively... who sees that email or post is up to you.

You'll see these options after using the "Invite People" icon at the top of the video call interface (1) if you are the HOA Host or it is a Hangout Video Call.

Maybe Blab, and its ease of getting people into the 'video room' has encouraged this update.

Faster phone calls in Google Hangouts

Calling from desktop just got better. We're excited to announce: 

* Faster call connections right inside of Gmail and Inbox
* Quicker call answering for incoming Google Voice calls

Photos and Streams... new directions for Google plus?
There have been some official announcements of change, but not much detail yet as to how this will affect what we now know of Google Plus...

Apparently Hangouts will also be a stand-alone product (perhaps it already is since we have a mobile app named "Hangouts") but more on that as information trickles out to us.

I share with you this comment that Bradley Horowitz made in some of his public replies to people concerned re. the planned changes:
The improvements referenced aren't a step backward - they're a step forward! This is about making sure these products reach more users - and are simple, elegant and delightful to use. I look forward to sharing them with you, and invite you to suspend any concerns you have until you've had a chance to use them yourselves.

Note how nobody is stating that "Streams" (a new name for what we call G+ now?) will no longer contain the things that are also going to stand on their own, so the use of photos and hangouts will likely stay part of Google plus, but may also have their own stand alone functions.
