New Problem: When I am logged in as my G+ profile everything is loading slow and i mean slow. I get the blue spinning ball next to my curser etc.
I disabled most of my extensions, had my computer guy do a remote scan of my computer and his advice is to start a new profile NOT!!!
I was on a Hangout Video Call the other day doing a slide share and the other person was saying that my computer was so slow and things were not loading. I have a really fast computer!
Anyone else ever have an issue with their Google profile creating these kinds of problems of slow loading.
Yes Leila Martin I did for the past 2 weeks and then yesterday it started loading normally
ReplyDeleteWell thank goodness I'm not going nuts! Just cleared up by itself - wow! Well I know I'm having issues with calendar so maybe it's all tied together
ReplyDeleteThank you very much John Jurkiewicz for answering as i certainly do not want to delete my profile that I've worked so hard on for 2 years ;-)
Leila Martin the calendar is still an issue. The appropriate people are looking into it to fix it.
ReplyDeleteHi, Leila. I've heard of mixed bag aberrations going on in Hangouts. Today we had a new issue with Comment Tracker, and had to work around it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if someone you are hanging out with says that YOUR presentation is loading slow, you would have evidence in what you saw on your computer. If you are seeing your media fine, and then sharing it, the problem may be either in the "share connection, " (Internet...) or in the other person's reception and rendering of your information, and not YOUR data delivery slowing down THEIR receiving of data or rendering.
Regarding G+ profiles, there isn't much that can "clog" the speed of your computer from the Google+ software. It is designed to be streamlined and lightweight. I doubt that there is much you could do to impede your profile, other than load images which push size limits.
To make sure you are starting with the best arrangements, check your software (Windows, Chrome, etc....) for recent updates, maybe clear cache, and try again.
Happy to join you in testing hangouts if you could use a test partner.
My computer guy disabled all extensions but my hangout extension thinking that might it. Interesting enough, my other PC just 3 feet away also shows the blue sphere going around mu cursor BUT not as long or as slow as the computer I am always on. They did a thorough scan of malware etc and can't find anything. Frustrating
ReplyDeleteLeila Martin I get a lot of "google not available" messages, retrying. So no you are not crazy and for me at least sometimes Google+ is painfully slow.
ReplyDeleteSusan L. Shangle. Well then I am on good company 👊
ReplyDeleteWIth the tech issues I've had this week, you'll want to run for a mile. Motherboard failures, email glitches, and a sudden inability to share my screen. It must be mercury retrograde!
ReplyDeleteAlso, completely clearing the caches often works wonders. Additionally, if you have been syncing bookmarks, you might have a humongous booksmarks file on hand by now, with multiple copies of the same bookmarks in different folders!!! (I did a while ago, and it slowed the browser load to a crawl.) I exported a backup, wiped all but the most recent bookmarks and folders, and started over again with a clean slate. Syncing re-polluted them a couple times, but finally it all settled down.
ReplyDelete(The bookmarks issue is particularly ugly since Chrome loads them all in when you start the program, and they can take up a ton of memory resources carried into every tab, it seems. Firefox does the same thing...)
ReplyDeleteI have a sparkly new computer Terry Leigh Britton and I've experienced some of Leila Martin's issues. However, I love the information in your comment. Transferred over my bookmarks so clearing them out now. Never heard of Canary - cool. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWow Terry Leigh Britton ! I am a Bookmark Queen. I thought I was smart to maintain an extensive bookmarking system in Chrome. And my browser has been sluggish for MONTHS. Thanks for the Chrome advice!
ReplyDeleteTerry Leigh Britton thank you! I do clear the cache on that computer a lot. As far as the bookmarks, I have quite a few.
ReplyDeleteI do not knowlingly sync them ;-) but they can certainly be cleaned out. If that fails then I will try that canary version of Chrome. REALLY appreciate your input and going to jump on this as soon as I have my first cup of coffee

ReplyDeleteTwo things that I would check:
1) Upload and Download speed
2) Try to duplicate the problem in FireFox
Russ
Russ Worthington upload is 17.12 download is 85.31
ReplyDeleteOpened Firefox and got into G+ and NO PROBLEMS at all! So it is evidently when I'm using Google as my browser.
I'll just use Firefox till Chrome gets fixed. I know some people always use Firefox as they have issues with the Chrome browser
I also went in and deleted quite a few bookmarks that i never use Terry Leigh Britton THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Leila Martin
ReplyDeleteMyrt and I use different browsers with different results. I use Chrome, she Firefox, we never know which is going to play nice. If I have issues, I switch over to Firefox.
Haven't bookmarked for a number of years, (Evernote works for me).
I think that some of the issues that I have seen, with Chrome, is AdBlocker some times, but not sure if it causes some of what I see. But, I try to stay with Chrome for HOAs.
Russ
Thanks Russ Worthington I've never had a problem with Chrome until just the last few days. My concern is that when I was on that HOA video call the other day that's when John Dietrich noticed issues and I was using Chrome
ReplyDeleteLeila Martin
ReplyDeleteI usually see the issues as I am getting set up, in the Green Room. Somethings, like if my Lower 3rd or comment tracker won't display, F5 / Refresh resolves that for me. Yes, it takes me out, but right back in and those two issues are resolved (Chrome).
Haven't figured out the pattern.
Myrt says her pre-sets don't always show up in Firefox.
Fun and Games doing HVCs and HOAs. Just something to keep us on our toes.

I just want to say this
ReplyDeleteWhen Andrew Hatchett and I started User2User a year and a half ago, this type of thread is what we were after.
Users helping Users
I know there are not a lot of posts from the members of this community (I wish everyone posted). But I hope they get something out of it by reading what thoughtful and nice people offering up free advise. With Helpouts going away recently, this is a nice alternative.
I just want to say to all of you in this thread....
Thank you!
Interesting Michael Daniels whenever I have a problem the absolute first place I think of coming for help is User2User. Goldmine of info and seasoned users!
ReplyDeleteI just want to add my thanks as well. It is you, the members, who have made this community the success it is. Your continued support is appreciated.
ReplyDeleteLeila Martin just to add to what others have mentioned. If you click the hamburger menu in chrome and choose "more tools" and then "task manager", this shows you what a resource hog chrome is. You can see all the things being used right now. I do this to see if I can close something.
ReplyDeleteAlso, an FYI, if you have added the hangout desktop app (extension) to your computer this is a HUGE bog down. I had to remove that extension.
Anyone that uses Windows knows when you shut down and you have 17 updates or whatever and you have to wait for them to load before you leave. Kind of a pain.
DId you know Chrome does this when you start your laptop? Yep, so it will run real slow at first adding all the updates. If you use a desktop and leave it on all the time, it update in the wee hours of the night.
Michael Daniels so you're saying that the little Hangout Icon desk top is a huge hog of resources. I do have that and I will remove it. My computer's slowness was happening all day yesterday. Just clicked on task manager and the big gobblers are Gmail and Google Talk. I did not know I even had Google Talk is that the same at the green hangout/chat app?
ReplyDeleteI also use Boomerang for Gmail and I think I need to clean that out. Such GOOD info here guys!!!! Thanks Michael Daniels and crew!
ReplyDeleteLeila Martin I believe I read somewhere that they integrated Google Talk into Hangouts recently. Perhaps that is what broke everything! Never had a problem with it as a standalone app running from a browser tab... Which is how it used to work.
ReplyDeleteBoatload of info here, thanks all!
