Now that we have Collections, I have a question for this community.

Now that we have Collections, I have a question for this community.

IF Collections allows users to categorize their content as per topics and it allows their followers to choose which content they would like to see and visit, as I understand it:

What if the Content Provider has a Community ?

I can see those who rely on Circles or do not have Communities, that Collections might be very helpful.

Any Thoughts?

Thank you,

Russ

  1. Russ Worthington I see collections as being mainly beneficial to those experienced G+ users who tend to do a lot of public posting to/from their stream as it gives them much needed control.

I don't see it being particularly useful to newbies to G+ as it is just one more thing to be confused about ( Profile, Pages, Circles, Communities, Collections....when should I use what, etc.).

As I do most of my postings within communities, don't really 'do' circles and very rarely visit my main stream, I can't see at this time where it will be of particular benefit to me personally

  3. I think it also depends on the different topics you post on...many people mistakenly post the same post over and over again to many different communities...then G+ tends to mark those posts as spam.
This will allow a user to post directly to their collection and allow folks to choose to see it or not.

An advanced user could use it for marketing very well, a newbie can get a great start and have organized posts right off the bat.

There are so many cool things happening with Collections now...I just found a whole slew of posts from someone that I had been following but not seeing in my stream, and it turns out she is from Arizona (like me) and has been posting pics of Arizona sunsets...that thrilled me to no end! I never would have seen them before collections...she shared one, and I saw it was in a collection and Voila! A whole new connection is made.

I am a collector and I love this!

  4. If I want a private collection, I can create one and use it as a DVR so to speak.

If there are 4 folks that do great instruction videos, I can create a collection and watch all of these in one place.

I can see a lot of potential uses in the future.

  5. Heather Kraafter  - This sounds like Pinterest. I get that.

Michael Daniels  -  I have done the same thing.

I was trying to determine how to address this feature within our community. You ALL have helped my understanding of the feature. I get it IF the person doesn't create content for a community, but want to build up a following.

    Thank you,

    Russ

  7. Russ Worthington  a great short round up of collections was done by Wade Harman and he also compared it to Pinterest which for me turned many light bulbs on.  Of course where on my mile long to-do list this will go is up for grabs ;-)

    Thank you.

I have created a couple of Collections for myself, like Sir Michael Daniels DVR list.

If I were looking for traction and was generating content on Google+, I see the reasoning for Collections. I am just trying to make sure I am not missing something for my Communities.

    Thank you,

    Russ

  9. I can see your dilemma.  We don't have a community so for me the path for us is cleaner Russ Worthington
