Lon McClure this app is based on a phone number not a carrier or something like google. I think it would be able to be used on either phone because i can send invites to people on my contact list who have iphones via email, facebook or 1 other. I don't know what happens since i already have the app and it wasn't sent to me. I don't know if it allows them to install the app from the invite or if it tells them how to get it.
This was taken off the app in play store. By the wording it says one app for both more or less.....here is what it says. Cross-platform Video call all your friends across Android and iOS with just one simple app.
Yup. I researched a bit. They must be referring to on app but there are two versions (ios and Android). I did try to install the Android app (even thought I knew it wouldn't work) and of course was rewarded with the "you have no compatible devices" dialog as expected. I'm sure it's just a rollout delay to my ios store. Not a big deal but i'm anxious to try it! If anyone else here knows for certain otherwise, please educate me.
good to know Lon McClure what does the icon look like so i can tell my ios friends. in my playstore i have to search for google duo and it comes up as a kind of blue circle with a white movie camera on it
Hopefully this is helpful. Just chatted with my daughter from Calif to Maryland or DC. She gave me a tour of her new apartment. Great quality, smooth streaming, and sound.
Interesting.... So, Kindle connectivity may be problematic. How about an Android tablet or iPod with a Google Voice number? Theoretically that should work, right?
Roland Takaoka Duo requires a phone since it's based on the phones phone number. thats how you connect. Tablets etc aren't phones... can't make phone calls with them. Duo is activated to the phone's number.

ReplyDeleteWonder what the problem is...
I've had messages from people who have used it and tested it this morning.
Richard Clarkson Looks like it is a slow roll out...

Andrew Hatchett Duo is out now but Allo still says registered so it's not out yet
ReplyDeleteAll I heard about being out was Duo - don't know a thing about Allo
ReplyDeleteAndrew Hatchett Here is what allo is about

I think Duo is only out in the US I can't find it in the Australian apps store
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try this out but I'm unable to locate the iOS app...
ReplyDeleteLon McClure it works for both ios and android so it's just 1 app for both i'm pretty sure and it's based on a phone number not a carrier
ReplyDeleteI wish that were true, Richard Clarkson But, alas, never has an Android app been installable on iOS. Sad but true story.

ReplyDeleteLon McClure i think it's run through webRTC or something like that.

ReplyDeleteUnless it's a web app? But there is no indication of that...
ReplyDeleteFYI - Duo is in my iOS App Store now

ReplyDeleteSimilar in iOS. White tile with blue circle/teardrop and white/gray video camera icon
ReplyDeleteLon McClure Thanks. sounds like it's the same as the one for android
ReplyDeleteDuo works great. There are two separate apps for Andriod and iOS.

Roland Takaoka I think it works good too. i did a test call today.
ReplyDeleteAlso had good results with Duo. I'm going to try installing on my mom's kindle to see if it works better than Skype on that device.
ReplyDeleteLon McClure remember that duo needs a phone number for it to connect to so her kindle would need to be a phone.

ReplyDeleteArgh! My research indicates that Google Voice numbers are a "no-go." The number associated must be from the associated SIM in the device being used
ReplyDeleteRoland Takaoka exactly !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteArgh... Bummer.
