I discovered something today I thought I'd share with you.
I discovered something today I thought I'd share with you. I was practicing for my hangout/webinar tomorrow evening and I was making sure the PowerPoint slides I was going to use were aligned correctly by using the Screen Sharing option on the Hangout Tool bar. Here is what I discovered: If you are going to use PowerPoint slides open the presentation and enable the "full screen" option in the lower left hand corner of your presentation. The icon is an open booked titled "reading view." when you click it once it will toggle to full screen view. That way when you screen share you'll be able to see the slides as you utilize them. If you use the Slide Show option you wont be able to see anything but your slides, no comments or anything. Most of you probably already know this but I thought I'd share for those of us who are discovering something new each day

I'd love too, thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you John Jurkiewicz I tried using Google Drive presentation in my practice like a slide share and it really didn't work properly. I wonder . . . could it be operator error. :-) I'll try PP next time and use the info you shared.
ReplyDeleteHi John I'm confused. I was thinking to use slideshow view with PP to give the viewer a large view of the slide and less distraction (the view of slides on the left that show up with full screen). But maybe that view of the upcoming slides is exactly what you want so you know what's next? My thought is a printout of my slides (given I don't have an external monitor just now). Am I understanding correctly?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this would work the same using Keynote on a Mac?
ReplyDeleteHere is what learned since yesterday copied from +Ronnie Bincer:
ReplyDeletePresentation programs like to go full screen when you go into 'presentation' or 'slide show' mode... this is BAD for screen sharing. Here's how to change that for Microsoft Powerpoint's "Slide Show" presentation mode (so it shows the slide without any menus in a movable window).
This is for a Mac, let me know how / if it is different for you PC users.
► Find the top menu choice named Slide Show (1)
► Choose Set Up Show (2)
► Select Browsed by an Individual (window) (3)
► OK the setting (4)
► Ready to present? Click the lower left Slide Show icon (5)
This makes the presentation/slide show display in its own movable window which can easily be seen & selected from within the Hangout's Screenshare dialog box.
Oh, thanks Naraya Stein
ReplyDeleteThanks Naraya Stein It's good to know there is an alternate way to share slides. I experimented with both ways, the one you shared through Ronnie Bincer and the one I discovered yesterday and got the same results using both options. Both present the full screen slide. I think the advantage to your option is that once you go to begin the show the parameters are already set for you.
ReplyDeleteGlad it was helpful. The main plus for me was that it allows you to select the PP when you go into screenshare mode so you don't have to choose desktop which would give that infinite mirror effect to your viewers.
