Google Apps Vault is now fully compatible with Hangouts conversations
Hello Administrators,
Google Apps Vault is now fully compatible with Hangouts conversations, which means that you can retain, search for, and place holds on all Hangouts conversations with history turned on. Please note that support applies only to Hangouts conversations that occurred after this feature launched on April 8, 2015.

Can anyone decipher this for me please with regard to the difference between hangouts and hangout conversations. I use Google Hangouts for clinical, private sessions and as such I need to ensure the privacy for a number of requirements.
I use Google Vault for email etc but don't understand at this time how this will work for Hangouts and which aspects of Hangouts this will currently apply to
Any comments would be much appreciated
at first read - the conversation is the written words in a hangout chat box when (and here is the key) history is turned on.
ReplyDeleteIf you are concerned by this, then you should turn off history for any chat messages you use where you do not want searchable and discoverable history.
I have noticed that when I search in mail for specific things, it also brings a c hangout conversation as a part of that search. I was unsure how the conversations would be searchable until I discovered that. So if you go into your Gmail, use the search bar at top and look for something you know you were discussing, you will be able to find it. This is valuable to me as I have MANY hangout conversations going and many folks give info I try to go back and find but am unable to. Now it is searchable - YAY! (Well, after the date mentioned anyway.)
I hope that helps ya out.

ReplyDeleteI think that Brian is talking about the Chrome APP (green floating circle with the quote mark) where you can do a chat between one or more person. It is automatically saved unless you turn it off, as you suggested and/or deleted.
But, hasn't that feature been around for a while?
Or did I miss something that was just rolled out?

search has not been around fro a while, it is new.
ReplyDeleteWhat is specifically being asked about here is Google Apps - for paid users.
