Had a few tech problems with today's CHANGES HOA which forced me to "go out and come in again" several times prior to going live just to get the Comment tracker to show on screen and to get my Lower Third to work. Also, video and audio were out of synch at first.
Finally got those going only to find out that the camera wasn't switching to each speaker automatically as each of us talked. I had to switch manually throughout the HOA. What a pain.

Any experience with the camera's not switching and ways to fix it in the future? Or, any of these other problems mentioned above, especially the out-of-synch thing, which occurred on Melita Noël Cantú 's HOA yesterday as well.

Thanks, everyone! Andrew Hatchett  Michael Daniels Terry Leigh Britton Zara Altair Meloney Hall Rayne Dowell Sheila Strover

Thanks!

  1. Did you check that no-one was whiteboxed/pinned at the beginning?  sometimes people do that without realising and that is why the video feed will not switch automatically :)

The out of synch issue is usually down to lighting and can often be remedied by having more light in front of you while on the HOA - sometimes it can be because of bad connectivity too, but adding more light can greatly enhance the synchronisation

  2. Hi Sally Sue Ember Wow! What a combination of frustrations. I've had to turn Comment Tracker on and off inside the HOA. Same with the lower third.  I'm not clear about going in and out. Did you do that manually or did the HOA force you out?
How long was the delay? There is always a delay of a few seconds.
About the camera: is it possible you inadvertently clicked on present to everyone?
You have definitely rounded up a good collection of helpers.
If you are part of Hangout Mastery I'd suggest posting this there for answers. The community, including Ronnie Bincer is very helpful.

  3. Usually the audio/video issues happen when your computer has to do other functions. So turning Dropbox, GMail, open tabs off/closing helps with this issue.  Also, low bandwidth speed causes sound/video issues.

How many people did you have in the Hangout?  If there was only 2 people then the camera will not visibly switch. but it does to the audience watching.

  4. +Thanks, Rayne Dowell . We got the synch to work, which "fixed itself" when we left and returned prior to going LIVE, as I mentioned.
The camera's not shifting for speakers was weird, though.

  5. Sally Sue Ember I was in HOA both last  night and this morning and the only problem I had was Comcast dropping signal last night. Sorry I can't offer any suggestions for a fix.

  6. Sally Sue Ember I second Michael Daniels on nothing else running. I am on Chrome. I turn off all the extensions before the show. I have the HOA window open and my profile open. Everything else is turned off. Scrivener off, for sure. It eats bandwidth.

  8. Michael Daniels thx. nothing unusual on. Camera always shows speaker to me in previous Episodes and when I white boxed my one guest, but otherwise, even when neither of us was whiteboxed and she was speaking, it stayed on me unless I whiteboxed her.

  9. Sally Sue Ember I have no idea why that would happen.  I am curious though, what was showing in the stream?

  10. I had similar challenges Sally Sue Ember. I'm grateful for everyone's thoughts on this. I just chalked it up to need a new computer.
