Andrew Hatchett I just followed the U2U blog.

Andrew Hatchett I just followed the U2U blog. I was wondering if (among all the various options you've already tried) you had considered moving this community to GSuite G+. Is there something about that platform that won't work for such a migration?

Most seem to think that that will be limited to people within your domain. If so that means G+ accounts for each follower at $5/$10 per account... and that means either you have to pay for their account or charge them in order to pay Google. IMHO, most individuals won't want to do that. Then you get in to the whole book keeping mess if you allow monthly vs. yearly. All in all, again just my opinion, way too much futzing about with the platform itself - Blogger seems to fit my use case without all that. :)

Thanks for following - let me know if you ahve questions or suggestions.

  2. I'm not sure that domain restriction is there. I just sent you a request to join a new community I just made up on my GSuite account. Would you mind doing so to check this out?

What email address did you send it too? I've checked and don't find it.

  5. Thanks for trying that, Andrew. During the setup it asks specifically if you wish to be able to make posts public and be able to invite people from outside your domain. It doesn't mention G+ at all. I wouldn't think that would be affected by the public G+ going kaput. I do understand your legitimate concern about what would happen after April but it might be worth your while keeping this open as an option. I don't think Blogger is a great platform to replace G+ although it might be the best one if G+ GSuite is not an option. Either way I'll continue to follow you and support the great work you do.

Thanks Gary. Unfortunately, I think we may have to wait until after April to see what happens...and that is to late to just up and move from one platform to the other for most community owners. We really need something NOW. Google isn't being a big help not answering all these questions, etc.

Should G Suites become a viable option in the future I'll have Blogger as an interim bridge :)

  7. Andrew Hatchett yes, I totally get that. You have to make a decision now and with Google's track record you have to have a viable alternative. Personally I no longer have a dog in this fight. My G+ Recumbent Bike Rider community will ride off into the sunset here shortly. I have an adequate presence on FB and Twitter so that my followers can continue to see what's up and have discussions. Neither of those two platforms hold a candle to G+ but ce la vie. For my more private communications with my crew and panelists on my webcast we use Slack. It's free and works fine for posting, file sharing and individual as well as group chats.

  9. Thanks, Ros Boundy ! That makes sense and should only happen the first time you comment. Slack is one of the most popular platforms used by organizations everywhere.
