Greetings! Is anyone having issues with Windows 8 and HOAs?
I have a friend using W8, and HOAs tend to shut down, and will not function, even though she just bought her laptop, which is a pretty substantial Lenovo PC.
Could it be a settings issue, or some level of permissions in the Chrome browser?
She can achieve some success joining Hangouts (as panel member, or filmstrip member...) with Firefox.
Any clues are appreciated. Thanks. Roland

ReplyDeleteIs she using Internet Explorer by default?
I run Windows 8.1 on my Desktop and Laptop, NO HOA or HVC issues.

Hi, thanks for responding, Russ Worthington
ReplyDeleteNo, she has been counseled wisely against Explorer. However, Chrome is offering no love, and she has fair results with Firefox.
I'll check and see if she's updated properly with her OS version.
I'm wondering if she could be foiling herself in her browser's settings?

ReplyDeleteI use both and am on about 5 HOAs per week. I don't have browser issues, but have computer issues from time to time, mostly because in the HOAs I am on, I have a lot else going on. I help Produce those HOAs.

Thank you, Terry Leigh Britton !
ReplyDeleteRoland Takaoka Has she got a lot of apps and extensions? Have her turn all extensions off and try, then add them back one at a time. You may find one is causing the problem.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe so, Andrew Hatchett . But I must double check this. This recommendation is sound. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnything in the Event Log under 'Application' or 'Windows'? Does the HOA close, or the browser tab or window close?
ReplyDeleteHere is a step by step process that I suggest to folks:
ReplyDelete1) Be sure the chrome browser is up to date
2) Clear cache and cookies
3) Turn off all chrome extensions. If this works, add the extensions back one by one.
Let us know if any of this works
I remember there being a permissions issue with a W8 user in the beginning of one of my shows for a viewer. Something in the windows permissions we all tend to just dismiss quickly.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michael Daniels and Heather Kraafter Good advice and clues. Appreciated.
ReplyDeleteRoland Takaoka there is an interesting note in the Google help pages which recommends the Windows Desktop mode (Not the GUI mode) https://support.google.com/chat/answer/2816899?hl=en
ReplyDeleteJohn Brown Definitely - I had forgotten about that mode change which is possible.
ReplyDeleteJohn Brown - many thanks! I believe that you may have solved our HOA compatibility issues. I will report back as we discover results. Thank you.

Terry Leigh Britton it is my hope that in my lifetime I can learn as much as you have forgotten.
