Followup on suggestions from last week's HOA

1). U2U is NOT just for Business-Hangouts info. 
Action taken: See Post

2). Practice BHOA and G+ Hoa Requests with dates and times. 
Action taken: Practice category has been added to left menu and I recommended that when possible a minimum of 3 people practice together so that they see how filmstrip reacts to different scenarios. See picture below.

3). Guidelines for promoting U2U
Action taken: Promote U2U category has been added to left menu and a post has been developed that all members can bookmark and then use to share to new individuals without having to remember the bit.ly link or go to community to get a link to share. See picture below and  the demo video.

4). Label platform used for each HOA when posting event.
Action taken: The most simple solution is to start titles with  "BHOA:" and "G+ HOA:". I have also created custom event banners and trailers for both platforms. See pictures below... The last picture shows approximately how it will all look on my future events.

Toshiba Chromebook 2 gets stuck during the startup process:

There are a few reports that some Toshiba Chromebook 2 units get stuck when searching for updates the first time. The team has fixed this issue, but since some units are sold with older software, this can still happen. The fix is to simply restart the device (hold the power button for ~30 seconds). It should then work as normal. If not, please create a new topic on the support forum.

Hi, All.

Hi, All... just a short intro..I'm a 65 year old semi-retired male, living in Smyrna, GA, formerly employed as an electrician with Chrysler. I've recently started a second career as a life coach, and I'm looking for ways to create more meaningful interactive content. I feel that using HOA and Youtube will be the best way to do that, and so I've jumped into this new game. I have a lot of technical background, and just built a new desktop (as part of my 'video studio') so as to be able to produce professional looking 'programs'.

I have no idea how this is all going to play out, but I'm just 'following my bliss' and letting it all unfold as I explore the possibilities... I feel that finding this community is a 'good sign', and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you, plus contributing in any way I can.

As most of you know, I'm a member of 70+ Google communities. Today while catching up on their activities I got curious and did some checking.

Of the 71 communities I belong to only 14 of them have an 'Introduce Yourself" type category. So- my question is...

Why wouldn't a community owner want such a category?

There is, apparently, a misconception that the User2User-LIVE! Community is only for help with the Business-Hangouts app. I'd like to assure everyone that  this is NOT the case.

The User2User Community was created first and foremost to offer help to anyone interested in learning to use and practice with the Google+ HOA app and/or the BHOA app.

We now have a community of 300+ with various skill levels in these  apps. Should you need help or want to practice with either just post a message. Help is just a click away.

For the time being, It is probably easiest to just add that info to the event title  [such as "G+ HOA: How to Make Comment Tracker Your Slave!" or "BHOA: Unleashing the Shared Content Quadrant!"].

Later there may be custom banners and trailers to handle this.

Anyone else notice when watching a live HoA from the G+ Event Page that the comments aren't loading up all the time?

Anyone else notice when watching a live HoA from the G+ Event Page that the comments aren't loading up all the time?  I've had to refresh the browser for a whole chunk of comments to show up.  I was wondering if it might just be something with my laptop or if others have been seeing anything similar? 

And if so, has it impacted their Comment Tracker if they are inside the HoA?

So here goes - 
Some may know me and some may not - you may even wonder what I do!  I am a user of hangout video calls, hangouts on air and the Business Hangouts platform.  I help in the Hangout Mastery community and am a moderator here in U2U as well.

I run my own community Kraafters Kommunity for a wide range of cleverly talented people who make Kreating everyday a wonderful journey.

I have the honor of hosting a weekly LIVE! craft show, a "chit chat" type show and once a month we also host an all day hangout event to just sit and craft together.  I use BHO to do most all of that and in fact - in the new year I will most likely be using BHO exclusively as the standard hangouts with add-ons has not been able to cut it for me and my viewers.

I use PicMonkey on a daily basis and quite proficient in how I use for my needs, including lower thirds (or anywhere on the screen) and other overlays to be used in your hangouts or in posts.

I use YouTube and am learning everyday how to improve my skills there.  

I run everything I do through my PAGE - Kraaft Shaak and am happy to share that knowledge with those that need help with pages.

I am NOT an expert on anything - but I do like to help.  If you are in need of help in any of these areas, please feel free to ask.

Today I joined the +User2User-LIVE ! community (THANK you Andrew Hatchett). I was getting acquainted with the community and then I realised I fail to meet one of your criteria to join: having more than one public post on profile... That's because I am still quite new to G+, and I deleted the few public comments I had made somewhere in between the moment Andrew reviewed my profile, and now. So... that has to be fixed, and thus my (now) first public post. And at the same time a little introduction. I am Spanish, and live in Spain, but I have for a long time lived abroad, and I keep a keen interest in the international culture, I love interacting with a curious mind and focus on business and living our passions. I have explored Google Hangouts a bit, and I look forward to helping out in this community as best as I can. However, I feel a total beginner with G+ profiles. For instance: what are the "codes" or "rules" for interacting? I know if I want to reach someone, I start their names with a +, and that way they get notified. If I was asking a question, and I get a reply, normally, I'd "+1" the reply. If I say thanks again, is it appreciated I re+ the person's name or is that unnecessary? (for instance Andrew, I've typed your name more than one time on the same message, there is no need to hyperlink it every time, is it? Is there any benefit?) And one last doubt (more might come to mind): what's the code for replying to events/shows I'm invited to? If I won't be able to attend, shall I say Maybe? Does watching the replay count? And then once watched, click on YES. Or should I say No? If I say YES, but don't show up, is that as bad as it sounds or does it still help? ;) Oh... and is there a recommended maximum length to any post? Nice to meet you guys, thank you for having me here.

I would like to thank Michael Daniels for helping me to troubleshoot an issue with a new Page. I was trying to follow the system he helped Susan Finch with, to enable one to launch an HOA directly from a url. He found that it was the lack of a 'verification' of the YouTube channel that was causing the problem.

We begin to understand that our way of living is not sustainable. The cities are overcrowded and suffocate in trash and poisoned air, the country is either abandoned or destroyed by monoculture and chemical poisonous products. Our health deteriorates more and more by the very way we are choosing to live.

What alternative is there? Many people have tried different ways to live sustainably by moving out and growing their food themselves, by using alternative methods for energy production - working very hard and feeling unsupported. So what about these efforts could be coordinated in collaboration within a community?

Make sure to stop by for this weeks edition of Around the Kitchen Table when Susan Serra and I will be talking about cookies!
And since Christmas time means Cannoli time to me I'll also be sharing my recipe for cannoli cream and some fun ways to serve them!

Cannoli Recipe
Ingredients
½ Cup Mascarpone
1 Cup Ricotta Cheese
½ Cup Super Fine Sugar
1 Tbsp Lime 0r Orange Zest
1 Vanilla Bean (scraped)
1 Tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
½ Cup Semi Sweet Chocolate (chopped into small bits) or use mini chocolate chips
premade cannoli shells
 
Instructions
Blend mascarpone, ricotta, and superfine sugar in the bowl of your mixer.
Add lime zest, vanilla, and vanilla bean. Mix well
add in chocolate bits. (mini chocolate chips may be substituted)
place finished cannoli cream into pastry bag and pipe into the center of the cannoli shell

How to Remove Yourself from Someone's Google+ Circles

People often ask if there is a way to remove themselves from someone's circles. Until recently, the answer was no, but that changed. Now when you block someone, you are removed from their circles. Blocking can cause complications, however, so blocking people unnecessarily is not recommended. So what should you do?

The solution is simple: block the person and then unblock them moments later. Blocking will remove you from their circles. Unblocking them will undo the blocking -- but not add you back to their circles again. 

To block a person, visit their profile, click the "V" at the end of the row of icons below their name, select the option to Report/Block them, and complete the dialog. To unblock them, start at the same place and remove the block.

I love that you emailed, but don't know how to get back to you. I have a lot of sales and marketing professionals that email me. I like email. It is nice to organize, civilized and all that. What makes me NUTS - one of the many things - is that when you send me an email and I want to pick up the phone, you don't have your phone number listed in your signature.

Many times you sign it with just your first name. Really? Do you WANT me to call you? Make it easy for someone to communicate with you. Perhaps they want to set up a demo with you, or buy your service, or talk about a strategic partnership. If you do not include a phone number, you give a clear message that you are really not about developing a relationship and want to remain at arm's length.

REVIEW your signatures. Better yet, make sure you have them in each signature for each email account you use.

We have ideas on how to use that signature area, keep it updated with your latest great thing you want to promote and more.

The second half of the show, Yvi is going to take you to task about your professional email account. I have a stack of business cards with an @hotmail, @msn, @gmail, @yahoo, etc. BRANDING! Make your presence matchy-matchy with your domain. Work for someone else but want to brand? BUY YOUR DOMAIN just for this purpose and toss your resume, reviews and more on that site. We will both hammer you on this.

Someone asked me about this. I wanted to get something up quickly. So this is not a great video. I will try to make something better when I have the time.

You can start a HOA on a mobile device, like a phone or tablet. Without having to start in on a desktop computer or laptop. I have started a HOA on just my android phone and nothing else. YOu can not use the hangout app for this. Go to youtube in your chrome browser. It will take you to the mobile site. You will have to go to settings and request the desktop site. Then just start the HOA as you normally would. When you click on the start hangout button. It will ask you to open the link with the hangout app or chrome browser. Always pick chrome browser.

Thanks for your support with the client hangout I had today. It went well in the end but it did take me a while to get rid of the echos. I needed to mute all computers and speakers except for one which needed cartoid setting (I think that was the one).  

I have another question... if you want to know how many people who watched live is the total the number that viewed according to the bottom edge of the hangout while its happening? Or do you add the YouTube views to the Google+ views?

I have a couple of questions I'm scratching my head with having done a dry run for a HOA that I'll be producing next week, hopefully some of you smart people in here can help me out :)

The 2 presenters are new to HOAs so I want to make it as easy for them as possible. My set up involves running the HOA from their brand page but I will have 3 "guests":
1 - me as the blue box controller and comment wrangler
2 - the two presenters 
3 - a screenshare of the PPT which will be on a laptop in the same room as them but operated as a separate guest because we want to be able to switch between seeing the presenters and seeing the PPT

My questions are:

a. Can we all be joining the hangout from the page on the 3 different computers without causing serious grief?

b. if a is correct the its the first person to join the hangout that has the bluebox control that the public sees right?

c. what do I need to buy so that the presenters can both wear ear buds when I only have one hole to put a sound jack in?

I hope this makes some kind of sense but it is late on a Friday!

Want to participate in an upcoming Google user experience study?

Google is seeking participants for a user experience research study that will be running between Tuesday, December 9 through Friday, December 19 (involving 3 different activities).

Among other eligibility requirements, participants should:

- Have a Moto X OR Moto G phone OR an Android phone running 5.0 or higher OS
- Have a Chromebook running version 39 or later
- Have a Bluetooth wearable device 
- NOT work at Google (not as an employee, vendor, contractor or vendor)
- Must live in US and be at least 18 years of age

This study is an opportunity to provide feedback on something that's currently in development. 

If you are selected for and complete all 3 activities of the study, you will receive a $225 Perks gift code as a thank you for your time and feedback once the study is over.

Is there any way to have a HOA "pause" and continue the next day or a week later?

Is there any way to have a HOA "pause" and continue the next day or a week later? Kind of a never-ending story with "chapters" vs separate showtimes. I know I can do separate HOAs then download and splice from YouTube then upload back to YouTube but I'd like to avoid that. Pretty certain this is not possible but thought I'd ask here in case someone had definite answer. If not in HOA what about BHOA?
