Is the link to our HOA different every week or can we create a static link that can be used repeatedly in promo materials?

Or do we direct them to our page?

  1. Not sure exactly what you going to do but if I understood your question, for every HOA a new YouTube video is created and the video has it's own link that won't change. Are you gonna create an event for your HOA every time? If so the event link is static and won't change as well. You can always share the link for the event with the video embedded there. Now every time you start a new HOA you going to have a new link.
Here is an example of how we share our Hangouts.
    Event:  https://plus.google.com/events/c9m8kni6eidqt9fdloa19gh6pks
    Youtube:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fS2NwpGMuA
    Blog:  http://craftbeernation.org/blog/pnq-028b/
You can't have the same HOA going forever.
Is that what you were asking? If you need help on how to set up events for HOA let me know. We have a doc we put together for our moderator I can share with you.

  2. There are a few different approaches that will work.
    1. Using a bit.ly link that you change the target for (a custom url can be created reflecting the theme or brand)

    2. When Ronnie Bincer  did his week-long tour of the big convention he attended (I forget what it was) he recycled his URLs for each section.

    3. Like you suggested, manage your promo materials to point to a page, or better yet perhaps, to a community like Heather Kraafter  has been doing.

  3. Gil Melo Surprisingly, although the YouTube URL does indeed change, the actual link to a hangout can be re-used over and over again.

  4. Nice Info Terry Leigh Britton and a good practice. I have to say though we have links from hangout nearly 2 years old that still work.

  5. Gil Melo Not sure what you meant by, "I have to say though..." - Isn't that what I said? Or are you referring to hangout event pages?

  6. I see now what you meant. I misread before

  7. Gil Melo Terry Leigh Britton Wow!  Lots of good info... still a newbie so part of my challenge is finding the right words for my questions ;)

Our plan is to create a weekly HOA where we Patty Burgess Brecht interview people.  We are in process of setting up a Page with our brand and a Community.  The community will be where we would like to point people to engage in discussions around out topic.

Gil, please share the doc you referenced :)

Maybe promo's could point to our community (I like this Heather Kraafter ) and could we ?pin our event page...
QUESTION: does the event page have to change for each weekly HOA or do we simply change the date, topic, interviewee, etc?

And how/where do we get/create the link to the HOA?

Thank you VERY much for your help with our process!

  8. you need to understand that Events and HOA Events are two different things. For HOA Events you need to go to the “Hangouts” section instead of the “Events” section and click “Schedule a Hangout On Air”
It all comes down to the process you choose.
HOA Events are more involving to create but will make your life much easier on the day of the Hangout. Some people choose to create the HOA on the day though. Will depend on you.

  9. everything depends on what your goals are.  As I stated in the Community Centered HOAs videos - I had a very clear goal...I was creating an exclusive show for people interested in my line of work.  I pulled away from the "Broadcast to the masses" model and chose to make it very exclusive.  That created a community of folks who are extremely close friends all over the world.  My goals were set so I knew what I wanted to achieve and created a process to do it.
If you do not KNOW what you want in the end, you will not be able to find the best practice to achieve that goal.

Also Gil Melo I do not agree that any of the set up processes are easier day of or not because it all comes down to practice.  If you know what you want, practice how to do that, then THAT is the simplest thing to do in every case.

A clear goal of what you want to achieve is first, how to get there is just a matter of learning.

  10. I said i consider easier but as I mention will depend on you. What I meant is that is much easier to come in and start the hangout if you did all the work before hand.

  11. We do both Events and HoA events. Will depend on what we want to achieve.

  12. Here is why I think it's easier when you doing community based HoA (and that's my opinion, everyone have to find the path they like better). And this is based on her question about creating events for the community and to bring people to the community. If you create an Event and then create the HoA on the day of. You will need to put a link for the HoA in the event comments and everywhere else you want to spread that link on the day of the HoA. Now if you're promoting the event and you put the event link on the community or Twitter, FB and every Social media out there, you will as I said, have to go back to those places and put the video link everywhere all over again including in the community. In other hand if you create a HoA Event, the video and the event will be in one single place where you can use from the moment you create the event and after. Will make for a much better way to promote that Event. You can pin that HoA Event to the top of your community. On top of that if you don't have a second person and a long time before hand to get prepared, Start a HoA that was scheduled will make your life much easier since all you need to do is press one button or 2 if you're having Q&A on, and take your time to invite people and get ready. I have no problem on doing the other way, I just for communities this is a easier path.

  13. Myste Lyn this is not a perfect doc by all means. But it may help you untill you find something better. We made this to help the mods on our community to start and practice Hangouts. Please pretend there's no spelling errors and grammar mistakes. ;)

  14. Gil Melo Thanks!  Good to know there is a difference between events and HOA events.  From where I sit now it seems that an HOA event is a much better solution.  I will take a look at the doc now :)

  15. Heather Kraafter I like your commitment to goals and practice.  My co-host Patty Burgess Brecht and I have not addressed goals directly (in that they are not written down) but from our many conversations I would say (and feel free to jump in Patty):
    1. We are creating a brand and desire longevity
    2. We are positioning ourselves as experts in our field
    3. We want to find and grow our tribe
    4. We would eventually like to monetize this (we have discussed the  possibility of offering advertising/promotion spots to trusted colleagues)

  16. Gil Melo not to be a pest but it is actually not like you stated to add a video to a regular event. You can add a video to it, it will be attached to the event just like a scheduled hangout and you can do it ahead of time. If you shared the link to the event in various places that event will have the video and no need to add extra links as you stated.

YouTube allows you to set up HOAs ahead of time and using the more options in the event set up allows you to add that video into the event all as early as you wouldlike to do.

Just want to be sure we give the full disclosure here.

  17. Myste Lyn sounds good. Always start with the framework of what you plan to achieve that way you can focus on your goals and follow through on your plan!
